2004 Cayenne Turbo versus 2006 Turbo S

Hey everyone

just looking for opinions. Currently have a 2004 Turbo with 248k on the clock and I might have the opportunity to pick up a 2006 Turbo S with 90k on the clock for around 20k

the mileage doesn’t really concern me, I’m wondering what the pros and cons are compared to the 04 Turbo. From what I’ve read, bigger brakes, bigger inter coolers, top end is slightly higher, and the item I keyed in on was that the Turbo S only out performed the turbo at higher speeds.

thoughts, comments?

Dude aside from the purchase cost, I think you could argue that every.single.thing about the Turbo S is better in every.single.way. That was the last year Cayenne before Porsche joined the world-renowned-high-mileage-intake-manifold-walnut-blast-club that is all things Direct Injection. I am an idiot, but it seems lots of people prefer port injection, at least for aftermarket tuning, etc. I haven't been around the Porsche community long. I never, ever thought I'd ever be able to afford entry. The Cayenne Turbo 957 I recently fell in love with changed all that. I still yearn for the Turbo S variant though. Although even a simple ECU tune, the Turbo easily eclipses the Turbo S in power if that matters to you.

I'm not one of those forum guys who sorta "yells" at anyone new or anyone who asks any question with more or less of a "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!", but I'd suggest checking out FCPEuro for some breakdowns in the generations and models. They have been a fantastic resource for me, a new guy to the Cayenne world. I've watched nearly all their videos on the 955/957. I will do more than just post a link to them in response to your post. I like the forum community for the discussion and debate for this exact reason.

I'm not sure if your question is more about what the differences are or whether or not it's a worthwhile purchase. I have to say, I'm super impressed with the mileage on your Turbo! Can you quickly say how long you've had it and what, if anything major has broken and cost major $$$ to repair/replace? As a side note, I think people underrated the Cayenne's build or engineering quality because it seems they're all pretty solid and can last a longggg time if well maintained. And to think, the 2004 model was arguably the most issue-prone of them all... later models started addressing some of the problems i.e. coolant pipe fix, etc.

Anyway, yeah, FCP stuff.... Porsche Cayenne Generations Explained

However, as a fellow "idiot n00b" I still find myself asking certain questions that I don't see an answer for there. Does the Turbo S you're talking about have PDCC? Don't all Turbo S models have PDCC standard usually, or was that an option? I hope someone jumps in here to correct me. Then again, is PDCC really all that great? I mean, is it truly worth whatever it adds to the price of the vehicle? I personally really want to know as well because I always wonder if I missed out on something by not buying a model with PDCC. But that's just me.

Idk where you're located, but 20k seems a little steep IMHO. Yes, 90k is low mileage for that year, and as discussed I think they seem to be generally viable for long-term ownership. But even with the ridiculous used-car market currently, is that what they're going for? I just checked NADA for you... without knowing all the options, it's spitting out $3k less. Of course, the only ones actually using NADA as a decision-making-guide are insurance companies when your car is a total loss. Ask me how I know.

I would say if you could get down on the price it'd be awesome. I also think that's a true telling or a test of how good a vehicle platform might be if one is considering dropping $20k for a 16yr old vehicle with nearly 100k mileage that is NOT some kind of collector classic. Then again who knows, the Cayenne might become one of those treasures

I have one of each and love them both. I will say the '06 CTTS feels and performs more "beastly" (to use a less than technical word) than the '04 CT, but they are both wonderful. The '06 CTTS has gone in up in asking price over the last couple of years and a good one with less than 100K will usually find a buyer around the price range you've quoted. I'd confirm the coolant pipes & T's, cardan shaft, and valve body before purchase.
