Gas cap plastic connector broken?

It broke like the second time I added gas to my new CS... anyone else has this problem? Its the plastic "string" that attaches the cap and the car.

Should the dealer be replacing this stupid thing under warranty? Thanks.

Triple B is infamous around these parts
I cut mine off so the gas cap does not hang down and scratch the paint. Actually that is one of the first things I do when I get a new car. Remove the paper plates / dealer license plate frame and cut the gas cap tether.
But if you want a new one I would think the dealer should replace it under warranty

If you need another one you can do one of two things....
I can send you mine attached to the old gas cap because I got the aluminum Tequipment one on (puts a smile on my face and lessens the pain whenever I fill it up, which is very often!)....or you can use this as an excuse to buy the aluminum Tequipment one for yourself which comes with its own tether.
Incidentally, once the cap is removed it hangs at such a point that it rests on my wheel well guards (plastic) and never has a chance to scratch any paint - so I was happy to keep it thethered.

Would your old gas cap fit a 2002 TDI? Where do you buy Tequipment aluminum gas caps?
Thanks,
