VFlow and DV's...
Thinking about those two as my first mods and maybe the plenum. Any pros/cons to these?
|
No cons, but do get the Fabspeed bypass pipes along and the EVOMS air intake system you will gain alot and lose some of the annoying "Turbo lag" down low.
|
I have heard pros and cons about the bypass pipes and that they hurt torque down low. Can we hear from someone who has JUST done the cat bypass (no other changes) on a Turbo, not an S. They are not the same animal. Every opinion I hear about what I should do for my turbo has come from an S owner. I put a Tubi on my TT and it hurt the low end response...plus after having it drone for a few weeks I'm having it removed and going back to stock.
|
I have the Fabspeed Bypass pipes and they are my only mod so far. Other than some sound, I can't say I really feel any loss or gain from them. I was hoping the Vflow and DV's might help a little to open it up some more.

Thanks Griza, but that's my point. I would think you'd feel some 20+ HP as claimed by Fabspeed. How much louder is it in the cabin, any negative resonance and how would you characterize the difference in sound?
|
Considering 20+hp on these Cayennes are less than 5% increase, maybe it is not noticable. The sound overall is better with the BPP's, I do not hear any droning. It is louder in a deeper way but still not an optimal way. It is hard to describe the sound but at partial throttle from a stand still it makes a sound that I am not completely happy with. Almost a deep tinny raspy sound. I just wish it would sound like the ballsy V8 monster that it is. A deep evil roar is what I am looking for when I step on it, a nice deep rumble when I am just cruising. Is that so much to ask for???:)

Sounds like you's like the Tubi, just don't take off anything else, just replace the muffler. Maybe I'm getting old but honestly I missed the silence of the stock system. The Tubi sounded great, but a little doning from 1700-2200 rpm which since I live in the burbs of Chicago most of my driving is stop and go so you could always hear the motor right in that droning spot, not too loud but always there. Most people it would be OK but I have to take customers out and it was a little too F150 ish for me, others would really like it I suppose. The dealer offered a full refund so off it will come. I really could ask for more than that. Plus I didn't notice any real tangible power increase and like I said it fell off in the low rpm's.
|
That does seem to be the problem, it sounds more like an F150 than lets say a Mustang or Corvette with some nice pipes on it. I hate to use the Mustang or Vette as a reference point but when one roars past, it always gets my attention. Basically that deep roar is what I am looking for. Your dealer is really hooking you up with the full refund. Stock it sounds like nothing, at least with the BPP's you hear something. You might be happy with that, try them out.

Fabspeed mufflers is the answer.

Yeah, it's so hard to tell w/out driving/hearing on the car. Even the dealer guy was suprised at how loud it was considering the turbos, 2 sets of cats and then the muffler. Thanks for your input Griza and sorry for sort of hijacking your thread. I think for now at least I'll go back to stock. I think it's the lack of a refined sound that bothers me, like I said, too F-150 ish. I have wondered about the Milltek system with the resonators as one possible option. On the Fabspeed site you hear it with the cat bypass too so you can't tell how it might be w/just the rear muffler replacement. Someone on here had a full description on the DV's including his install, I don't know what if any S.O.Pants effect they might have. I think their fuction would only be noticable if your stock ones are failing or not holding pressure. No experience w/the top plentum replacement, but hard to believe that Porsche would leave HP on the table...but hey, never know. Seems to me that an aluminum piece would get hot and heat the air too. The stock piece is plastic I believe. I'm interested in what you find out.

I listened to it on their website and did not think it sounded that great. I realize you have to hear it in person to really make a judgement on it. Maybe the Cargraphic or a custom with some magnaflows like one member did.

Here's my problem with the Cayenne Turbo's. Why is that my 03 RS6 sounded like a monster right from the factory. When I added Miltek downpipes, highflow cats, and exhaust it probably was the best sounding car I ever had. Very deep, never too loud, and made a lot more power.
Everytime I ask someone about a deep sounding exhaust for my Cayenne Turbo they tell me that it's a turbo so I won't be able to get a deep sound. Then how did Audi do it over 4 years ago!?!?!? Anyway, I still haven't figured out if I'm even going to bother with an exhaust on the Turbo S, much less which manufacturer I'll buy from Just my $.02. :)

Chrisfast, I have noticed the availability of a Miltek system for our turbo cars...what it really sounds like I don't know and I'd hate to spend $2500 to find out I don't like it. What I found interesting is that it is available w/or W/out resonators which with them might give the sound w/out the boom or volume. Seems like what's on the market now is too far for me...dead silent or live with the motor sound every minute of every day and the interior resonance. The tubi looks sweet and sounds great but not for every day or when I have to take clients out. Too much...wish there was some middle ground slightly louder than stock w/a refined sound and NO interior resonance. If anyone has the Milltek let us know. Thanks

Hey Griff,
Got your PM but didn't respond yet. Anyway here are my impressions of the EVO V-flow. Since I got it installed when I did the ECU flash and Exhaust it is difficult for me to tell if it made any more power. I will say you can definately hear the turbos more and the "woosh" sound is very nice if you like that type of thing. I was able to find the V-flow used for around $450 so I got a really good deal on it. Not sure if I would pay full price though... For around $800 it is quite pricey as far as a air intake kit goes. But the fit and finish of the product is top notch. I haven't installed DV's yet but I am planning on doing that next. Give me a call and you are welcome to take the car for a ride and see what you think. The exhaust I had made for the car just rocks and I am considering adding some pypass pipes to it. |
