Roof Rails removal?

Have a 2011 Cayenne Diesel and it came with roof rails.
I know these are factory installed but does anybody know if the rails and mounts can be removed at all?
If this is possible I'm sure it would leave a gaping hole but I would get something fabricated up to cover this.
Just would like to know if they can be removed and how.

Thanks in advance!

You don't like how they look? Do you have a pic? Mine comes in next month and I actually ordered it with them. I think it gives it a sorta rugged and slightly different look than many of the others out there.

This is what it looks like now. Not the end of the world if it can't be done, just think it would set it off that little bit more maybe?

Nice ride!

That is a beautiful cayenne. I go back and forth on the roof rails but I like them more than I don't.

I actually have seen someone with an '11 who removed their rails. It wasn't pretty. You could see the stubbed out stumps that held the rails in place. I'm sure you could completely rebuild the roof with a qualified shop but I doubt that is worth it.

wow, that does not sound good.

Has anyone had experience with (or seen the output of) vinyl wrapping?

The roof rail looks nice though it is not useful.

I'm getting more and more keen to remove them.

Does anyone know how to get this little cover off with trashing it?

I was told it's not possible to remove it (at least in Porsche dealer centre) when I placed my order last week.

I think it looks nice as it match with the chrome windows edge though.

Please no black wheels with aluminum roof rails and chrome window trim.

https://i40.tinypic.com/v6t8pu.jpgHI MATE, did you ever get these off? Have just bought a similar Porsche and hate the roof rails

gbh 04-20-2019 06:25 AM

sadly never did manage to get them off

you probably want to start at removing the headliner, the roof rails are more than likely bolted on the cars roof from the underside.
