Does 91 octane clog up our Cats

I was speaking with a tech at Techart USA yesterday and he indicated that Cayennes are designed to run on 98 octane fuel and by running the US 91 octane it will clog up the cats. I assume he was speaking about the v8 cars.

Anybody hear about this? Have any problems with your cats?

Maybe the US models are detuned for lower octane.

Definitely not. The "98" is RON octane, which is about 93 in the States (which uses RON+MON/2). Running 91 US vs the recommended 93 US will not foul up your cats - you will just lose a small amount of power and a little efficiency.

I am not sure whether US Cayennes ask for 91 or 93. Most German cars only ask for 91, but I know 911s ask for 93 - but obviously thousands of them run just fine on 91 in California and other parts of the country where 93 is not available.

Good to know. And makes prefect sense. Just questioning what I was told.

I had the same concern and thus have been mixing Shell Racing Fuel 105 with regular Shell 91 so I am at 95 normally. Vehicle runs great, but it runs even better on 105 when I first put one can in before I take a short drive to the nearest gas station to fill up the balance.

Our V6 asks for 91 octane in the USA. Of course 89 and 93 are offered at most stations on the east coast.

Interesting. The V6 loaner they gave me a few months ago (2013 with only 276 miles) had a 93 octane sticker inside the fuel filler door.

Just filled my wife's V6 last night and found it curious that 89 and 93 are offered at the pump but the sticker said 91...

The ECU's for fuel management compensate for most any swill now with power retardation but my 2012 M3 calls for 93 minimum on the sticker so I don't know what BMW would do in Oki?

my e60 m5 said the same thing on it...just filled up with the highest quality I could (no ethanol) around town and never had an issue...still wish we had better options.
