'12 958 - lots of issues recently...

I'm nearing 3 years of ownership on my 2012 v6 and have loved it almost the whole time. But the last month has seen a whole host of strange issues appear. For example:

- PCM will periodically just turn off and reboot. Sometimes that happens every 90 seconds or so and sometimes it might go a day. Doesn't matter what I am doing (on the phone, using navi, radio, etc.). Twice it even shut off the screen entirely and did not come back on for the remainder of the ride (although it seemed to work when the car was turned off and then back on.)

- rear hatch won't open or close on its own anymore. I press the button and it starts to move but then it freezes up and I have to force it open/closed. Not sure whether something got bent (but can't imagine how) or if the hydraulics just went bad.

- all my speakers just went out. I can still hear the subwoofer making noise but I get nothing from the regular speakers anywhere in the car.

- my TPMS is telling me I have low pressure in one tire but a check with the tire gauge shows that it is actually correct.

These are maddening little defects. Do you think they are all related to some electrical issue somewhere or I am just getting close to the end of the warranty and this is the future I should expect going forward? My first Porsche so it really has me thinking and missing the reliability of my old Honda/Acuras (not that I can imagine going back there).

Off to the dealer on Monday but any thoughts are appreciated.

I’m coming from the Boxster world and have a Cayenne but only recently. They are all Porsche though.

From my experience and from what I have read (I’m sure others on this forum have had issues) the PCM issue is not uncommon and we’ll either get a software upgrade or a whole new unit. It is annoying and unfortunate but only lose sleep over it if the dealer doesn’t resolve it quickly. Keep detailed records of it though in case the issue runs on. I have had bad stories.

As for the hatch, this sure seems like a one time fix type issue. If it is mechanical then maybe they’ll have to order parts and give up your car for a few days. It certainly could be related to something electronic. It would not surprise me. Hopefully if so it could be resolved by the PCM fix. I am guessing though.

Speakers could be PCM related too?

TPMS senders do go bad, this you might actually have to pay for yourself? Would be cool though if the PCM fix takes care of it but don’t count on it.

Not sure about your mileage but it sounds like you are probably close to 50k miles. See how this set of fixes go before you pass judgment the future. Has it been reliable to this point? It will always be cheaper to fix it after warrantee instead of buying new.

Just under 30k miles. I agree that most of this is likely tied to a single issue with the PCM. We will se on Monday.

I haven't had any problems as of yet with my 12. but I only have about 11k miles so far, so only time will tell I guess. I don't trust these (euro) cars without warranty so I purchased 7yr/100k extended warranty. if you plan on keeping past the 4 yrs, I would highly recommend it.

I bought my CT brand new and I've had it for almost 3 years. It's my DD and currently has about 68K km (42k Miles). No issues worth reporting, it's been rock solid and very reliable.

Just picked up my car. Dealer said that a recent update to XM radio has caused all sorts of issues with porsche pcms. They updated the software and believe that will fix all of the electronic gremlins.

Also replaced the rear hatch arms. They were sticking which caused the auto open/close function to not work. Repaired under warranty.

My 2013 cayenne S now 45450miles, about 2 weeks ago, I had experience once with all PCM, center console, instrumemt dials, upper clock dials issue, when car start up, they are all light off for entire trip, but car still function properly. After I restart couple time, everything back in normal? It just happen once. Now my warranty nearly expire? Should I report and check with dealer about it?

It can't hurt, who knows you might get some updated PCM software. Mine is brand new and reset a couple times if it keeps up I'm taking it in. My Boxster did it once or twice to. Not unusual. Yours sounded pretty sick.
