How tough was it to remove the original tips, were the clamps hard to remove or straight forward? My tips should be here tomorrow so plan to install at the weekend, weather permitting?
It was very easy. And i am not downplaying it.
However, i sprayed WD-40 and let sit for 30 minutes then resprayed and waited again before jumping in.
To my surprise, the bolts were easy to adjust.
I had one tip that although the clamp was off, it was like it was 'welded' to the pipe.
I ended up giving the tip a fist bump to break it loose.
Other than that, the hardest part was putting the new tips back on.
It is a balancing act to hold in place and tighten the bolt at the same time.
Having a third arm would have helped.
Once you start tightening the bolt, the tip has a tendency to move out of place (alignment).
I found myself having to firmly hold one tip to prevent moving, and use the other to tighten.
Just go slow and take your time.
My tips came today and look really top notch but the end of one has a minor ding right on the edge of the flare where it meets the muffler, is that likely to be an issue for fitting, or airflow?

In all honesty you are likely fine, no small ding will have an adverse effect on airflow/fitting unless it's a large kink in piping.
Just out of principal, i would complain cause that sucks.
Was the packaging inadequate too?
If it were me, i would send the picture to the company in China you bought it from and demand a partial refund.
Then, i would get a rubber mallet and gently pound it back out.
Regardless, I think it will work as Jason suggested.
The clamp will tighten that specific area anyway. So the impact is minimal.
Nice looking tips.
You think that plasti dip wont peel from hot gas temperatures?
Others before me have reported that the outside does not experience any ill effect from hot exhaust gases....at least in the near term.
The outer portion is physically separated from the inner tube.
So while the inner portion would likely never hold up with a coat of Plasti-Dip, i expect the outer portion to.
I didn't attempt to plasti dip the inner portion but some overspay may have appeared like i did.
I will certainly post back here if i see any premature degradation/peeling.
If that's the case, its likely not worth doing.
I like the black tips better, but you need the black trim piece on the tailgate. The chrome looks better with the trim as is.
I did the plasti-dip route about 7000 miles ago and they still look like the day I painted them. I figured it wouldn't hold up well and viewed it as an easy to undo trial, but so far it's lasting well enough for me. I'm sure if I got up close or actually cleaned them from time to time they might not look as good, but from a cursory glance standing behind it they look fine still.
Have flat black dual tip exhaust on my 2014 CTTS. Paint got scratched off in places when I took the fascia off to install a trailer hitch. Had never done anything about it but it looked bad on an all black vehicle to have jagged silver/grey smudges standing out.
Found this thread, got a can of PlastiDip at WM and fixed up the tips. Very easy and tips look great! Thanks so much for posting this.
Has already been answered but outer part of tips physically separate from exhaust nozzle so temp rise causing peeling/degradation of paint isn't an issue.
