Anyone seen a DIY for making replacement headlight gaskets?
mine are brittle and gooey to the touch.
Replaced my horns this past weekend and noticed what a sad shape they were in.
Dealer says not available for this model, but available for the 2015 and up models. or the 955's
in Porsche's ultimate boner decisions, this gasket can not be replaced, it is part of the HL assy......... so my fix was these headlight rings to cover up the matreial ............
i had them wrapped when I Blacked out the rest of the car, the are attached with a super sticky two sided tape............ my one beef is the still do not cover the black gasket material completly. Might need to run a bead around them, I was looking at the 3M sealant used to install windsheilds, should have the UV properties needed. Pictures attached.
Bummer that they don't cover the rubber. My rubber gaskets look OK - but I think I'm going to R&R the headlights and give them a silicone grease treatment..
Hang tight guys. I have rolls of light gray butyl. This is the original stuff used to seal headlights for most manufacturers.
I don't know what Porsche uses and mine might not be the same, assuming they are using rubber gaskets. However, it would probably work in place of the rubber gaskets and provides a perfect lifelong seal for the headlights. You can also trim the areas that it will squeeze from the headlights and it should look perfect.

Macporsche015, how secure do the rings feel? Can the rings withstand the wind when driving 100+ mph? Not that I drive that fast...(crossed fingers behind my back). I would hate to have one fly off and hit the windshield or someone behind me. Looks great though!
I wonder if Porsche will start offering the gaskets when more ppl start reporting the problem. Replacing the complete headlights assys is not a solution.
New part on order, Water- and Weather-Resistant Hollow Rubber Flange-Mount Seals Temp range -20°-200° PN.1142A37 ,A bit concerned with the temp range.
I prefer the 480° version but not available in this size.
Jay - these look like a much-needed alternative to the not available part from Porsche.. can't wait to hear which one looks/fits the best. If these are made of Viton - use of some silicone grease - worked into the rubber - will help protect them from your California sunshine and ozone. We don't have that problem in NJ - we just have humidity and rain. Lots of humidity and rain so far this spring.
