My $171.19 factory battery swap in my 2011 Cayenne S

Hey all!

I hope everyone is staying safe. I wanted to post some photos of my battery replacement on my 2011 Cayenne S. The original factory battery was approaching 10 years old this November so it was time. The amount of little electric gremlins AND the inabilty to really charge the battery lead me to email my dealership to see what it would cost. I was quoted somewhere in the 700 dollar range at the dealership. I was also given some other advise that lead me to my local Advanced Autoparts down the street.

I purchased this battery DieHard Platinum AGM Battery, Group Size H8, 900 CCA to replace the factory one. 20 percent off coupons can be found everywhere for this particular battery so after tax and core refund I snagged it for $171.19

My good friend invited me to his gorgeous new garage and gave me the guidance and tools to DIY my very own battery swap. Of course I tried to tip him for his help but he refused. I wanted to share a few pics of thr swap.

Prepping in the new garage while my friend preps disassembly of his transfer case.

Getting the battery ready for transfer.

My friend started the project for me by getting the seat back, carpet pulled back and battery cover off.

Just before I removed the factory battery.

The old battery is out!!

Picked this up for 75 bucks delivered on Ebay and it arrived the same day. I topped off the battery, cleared a bunch of memory codes and I am good to go!

Thanks for checking it out!

Good work - doesn't look that difficult . . . what codes and how did you clear them.

Thank you. If you dive deep into your scanner you will see some bad memory codes in various places. I am guessing those got wiped after removing the battery. Other than that so far I don’t think I am having anymore battery related issues. Fingers crossed. Make sure you have a battery charger hooked up to the terminals inder the hood while you do the swap to protect your PCM settings and such!

Good luck.

Feels good to save $500, doesn't it? Drooling over your friend's garage! Commercial operation or did he go over the top on his own private man-cave?

When I did mine (2014 CTTS), I figured out the vent tube on the "front" of the battery ("front" = when battery installed in vehicle; it only goes in one way) but didn't realize there's a second vent hole on the "back" of the battery that needed to be plugged (could use one from old battery or new batteries usually come with one attached to the protective plastic cover on the + terminal).

So I finished my battery swap and was all proud of myself when I looked at the old battery, saw the plugged rear vent hole, and realized that most likely I'd left the "rear" vent hole unplugged on the battery I'd just installed..... <expletive!>

Considered letting it go but then got to thinking that hydrogen and/or sulfuric acid laced vapors in a relatively non-vented compartment probably not a good idea.

Oh well..... at least I was familiar with how to unbolt the seat and could get to the rear vent hole without having to actually remove battery from the vehicle! LOL
