CEL Scanner won't power up with my Cayenne? Suggest a good scan tool.
 

Got my first CEL yesterday. Plugged in my cheap scanner from China and it did not even light it up. Meaning that my OBD II port isn't getting power. I checked the fuses that I thought may power that part and they were not blown.

I need to get an accurate fuse list for my specific model.

My AC / Heat and all of those controls quit working as well. Guessing its a fuse.

So today over lunch I plan on removing every fuse and checking it.

Do you know where I can get a fuse list specific to my 06 Cayenne Turbo - S? Can you suggest a good scan tool? Preferably one that takes a battery?

Still can not believe how big of a grin I get every time I drive this vehicle. It's really something else. :D

Perhaps telling us the year/model of your Cayenne might be a useful thing. I use an iCarScan tool - around $200 and not officially sold in the US (have to order it from China.) It is VERY complete - at least with the 958 series. I also have the "standard" around here for a Porsche specific scanning tool - DuraMetric. A bit more expensive - and limited since it only does Porsche vehicles.

The iCarScan tool I bought you can select 5 manufacturers and download the diagnostics software for each, included in the price. If you want more than 5 - you can buy additional manufacturers for $50/each.

The iCarScan works with an Android phone (and some Android tablets - not all..) via Bluetooth
The Durametric requires a Windows PC with a USB port.

Both will give you the extended Porsche codes (P1000 and up) that a standard OBD-II code reader will not interpret correctly. Both allow for resetting service interval settings and doing some customization to the vehicle (depending on what year/model Cayenne you have.)

And it may not be your OBD-II port missing the power. Some scanners are wired slightly differently and won't work with a VW/Porsche OBD-II port.

My Porsche is an 06 Twin Turbo S model. And you are correct, not all scanners accept the Porsche OBD-II port. I just took it to a shop and their scanner worked fine.

I'm shooting the following:
P0441 Evaporative Emmision System Incorrect Purge Flow
and
P1610 Timeout Air Conditioning

They used a Cread Professional CRP123. Guess I'll buy that one.

Do any of these code scanners / readers have the ability to reset maintenance notices?

Looks like it uses the same diagnostics software as the iCarScan - from Launch, so it should be a good choice. I searched for it a bit and it appears to be priced about the same as the iCarScan.

And to answer the question in your next post - yes - they all do.
