Hardwire radar detector to sunroof control?

Hey all!

I'm the proud new owner of a CPO 2004 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. I went from driving a 1994 Ford Explorer to this beast. Little bit of a step up

I would like to hardwire my Passport 9500i and this (sadly) doesn't have the Homelink option. Since the sunroof control is ignition-controlled, is it possible to pull power from here? Has anybody tried this before?

I read about using fuse 41 but that seems like quite the distance if I can simply pull power from the overhead console.

Thanks for the help! I plan on doing quite a few mods while trying to retain my warranty

I ran my wire straight to the fuse.. for some reason someone told me not to go with the sunroof option (can't remember why). On my previous cars, I always connected to the sunroof.

Routing the wire to the fuse panel is REALLY easy... just up by the headliner and then down the side pillar.

I'll probably end up doing it that way then. Don't want to risk messing anything up.

Thanks!

why not just run the wire to the fuse box which can be found at the front passenger door side... it's my setup and i'm very happy with it. When i start the engine, my valentine v1 turns on, when i turn the engine off, it turns off.

Got it all working! Accidentally had it wired to the driver-side for a little while

Thanks!

Is there any reason why we shouldn't hard-wire to the driver-side fuse panel? I did that on my previous Cayenne (4 years without any issue) and I just did it on the new one over the weekend.

Thanks!

The reason I didn't is because I couldn't find a switched fuse. Ones that I thought should've been switched (ignition, headlight washers) weren't. I have no idea why. My radar detector would come on without turning the vehicle on.

I want to do the same thing with my Valentine. I have no issues routing the wire to the fuse box, but where and how exactly do I connect the wire to the fuse box? Any help is greatly appreciated.

On my old vehicle all I did was cut the wire long and wrap it around the end of the fuse.

This time I used something like this: http://shop.oreillyauto.com/productd...goryCode=3067G

Stick it in and then put the fuse in.

Gents be happy you went this route. I wired my detector into the wiring in the roof panel and i am not happy at all. I am sure i will end up redoing it. Basically the power shuts off if someone opens a door. So i start up the car and as the family climbs in the RD goes on and off. Pretty irritating.

I would except I don't think I can as I don't have enough posts yet.

I have taken some pictures of my setup and emailed them to "katheikia". I can do the same for you and perhaps you can post them up for everyone else to see.

Let me know!
