How do you deal with people trying to race you on the highway?

09RedGTS is infamous around these parts
Has not happened to me, even tho here in Central FL the freeways are often not that busy. I usually floor it myself, as long as there is somebody in front of me to attract the attention of the police ahead.

this is a funny thread. I usually now drive a not seriously fast BMW 535 xi wagon, 6 spd, but it has an exhaust and Dinan software for about 400hp/420 lb ft and light 18" M forged wheels, ethanol free 92 usually. So, it's actually a lot quicker than it looks like it should be.

However, all sorts try to bully or test it around the Seattle area mostly when I come up from behind as all they see are the classic bmw lamp halos. Maybe they are expecting an M or other usual suspect. They "toot, toot" or clearly stomp it and then get passed by a large wagon often with a cargo box Granted these are not seriously fast vehicles in my opinion but still, I just don't get it.

One time it was a guy driving, a couple in their 50's, in a Volvo V70 R. He got annoyed I passed or something then tried to "show" me. He got shown... my gf just shook her head at me.

Being a Cayenne section, what are peoples thoughts on the NA GTS vs the feel of the TT engines? I've driven both and feel like my inline 6 with early and later turbo design ? (N54 engine) is rather smooth "for a turbo". Otherwise I've usually preferred the "feel" of NA engines like the Audi 4.2 or the GTS I almost bought. I think it's the linear response I like, even if turbos are almost always actually faster in the end.

The lag is very terrible on the turbo , you can remove it with catless exhaust but tiptronic lag remains ( puting very high gears on slow speed and than downshifting you speed , usually takes 1s!) .Its a big truck and it feels slow to even with 650 hp ! So a gts should be really slow ? Hmm I havent driven both and cant make such a hard statement

I had a Pontiac G8 GT sedan (360 hp 6.0L V8) with a very loud exhaust try to bait me last weekend, I actually took his bait this time instead of ignoring it.. He revved me a few times and floored it and I didn't chase, but ended up behind him on a long curved on ramp to the highway and heard him drop a gear in front of me so I did the same and as soon as the ramp started to straighten out he punched it and I followed suit. From 40-100 or so I made up the car length or 2 from being behind him, merged to the next lane and passed him and his headlights were just behind my rear bumper when I let out to brake.

Not too shabby for a big SUV, first time I ever really raced with anyone in it.

If you look at the torque/horsepower curve on my last dynos, you will see that the there is less turbo lag then what is traditionally out there. You have to keep in mind that while this is not a particularly large V8 at almost 5 liters, the turbo pairing is very small to keep responsiveness up. The 957/958 CTT/S turbos start to spool very low at 2,250 rpms. This is also paired with camshafts made to make max lift at 4,300 rpms. The net result is something with loads of low, mid range, and decent high range; although it does start to taper off past approx 5500 rpms. The feeling isn't as linear as the NA engine, but much more linear than a boosted inline-4. Overall, if I had to choose the Cayenne GTS, I would most likely just drop the Cayenne platform and move over to the 911. The power delta is way too large to even consider 430 hp at the crank.
