DuPont Chemicals TeflonŽ PTFE

[: a polymer of the monomer tetrafluoroethylene]

TeflonŽ is a brand name for a man-made chemical known as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). TeflonŽ is a fluoro surfactant that has been in commercial use since the 1940s. It has a wide variety of applications because it is extremely stable (it doesn't react with other chemicals) and can provide an almost frictionless surface. Most people are familiar with it as a non-stick coating surface for pans and other cookware.

TeflonŽ will help ‘spread ability’ (but then so do silicon oils) it does nothing for durability because of its required application method-although TeflonŽ is an exceptional product when used as intended; it provides no benefit in a wax or polish.

TeflonŽ PTFE is a powder that can only be liquefied with certain very expensive chemicals / process and therefore is not a suitable component foe car care product. There is no reliable data that indicates the use of TeflonŽ fluoropolymer resins is beneficial in car waxes, and we have not seen data from other people that support this position

Be cognizant that to comply with Advertising Laws it would only take a single grain of powder to state that a product ‘contains TeflonŽ PTFE ‘ hoping that the consumer will believe there is something special about that product.

According to G.R. Ansul of DuPont's Car Care Products, Specialty Products Division
, "The addition of a TeflonŽ fluoropolymer resin (PTFE) does nothing to enhance the properties of a car wax"

Ansul also notes that, "Unless TeflonŽ is applied at 700 degrees F, and using a dissolving chemical C8, it is not a viable ingredient, and is 100 percent useless in protecting the paint's finish." This is hot enough that your car's paint (let alone your car) wouldn't survive.
