Chrome cleaning and HRE wheels question
As many of you know the polished lips on the HRE wheels are a major PITA to maintain!!
I am in the process of ordering a new set of HREs and am contemplating getting the lips in chrome instead of high polish...Would this be easier to keep clean and shiny or worse?? Also, what products do you reccomend for chrome?? The guy mentioned something about if you curb your wheels a lot then high polish would be better but I did not understand why... TIA |
Mansour:
With the Mother Billet Mag Polish the high polished rims shoudl not be as much of an issue anymore. I think chrome will look out of place on the 996tt. |
just chrome outers...dont look too different from high polished when nice and clean...im getting the centers in silver again ;)
What do you think?? |
I still like the high polished trim over the chrome. What model, 841R?

TIA I believe that chromed is heaver as it is a coating over the lips. If your curb your wheels and they are polished they are much easier to repair (depending on how bad of course) than if they are chromed as again it is a coating. I would think that chromed would be much easier to keep clean. I have chromed wheels on my FX and they are simple to clean and shine like new after just washing... |
SUUUURRREE steal my chrome lip idea :D.
I will be getting chrome lips on my next HREs that I will be ordering soon.... Chrome really does not look ANY different then the high polish...One of my buddies has Chrome (inners and lips)545R's on his M3 and his wheels look better then mine because of the scratches in my lips...however his looks exactly like mine the day I got um... I say go for it!! Evan PS-Who you ordering from?? PM me... |

Still debating what style.....841R tops the list...

Chrome may not look any different but it does add weight to the wheel and it is jut a mental thing as well. Chrome belongs on Cadillacs and 50's hot rods, not a Porsche IMHO.

how much wieght would it add??...I doubt too much...I'll offset it with the Le Mans LOL

thanx Evan - I am still on the wall about the Le Mans - it is in part dependant on me getting rid of my GT system...
Also, Evan, PM me when you find out the deal on how much to add chrome to the HREs TIA BTW - even the GT brakes squeal but only occassionally and at random!! (usually when you try and do a slw drive by a cafe packed with hotties - how embarassing!!) |
The brakes are performance grade, which means that when you aren't applying heavy brake it tends to squeek. If you plan on doing racing then the upgrade to "Lemans brakes" i hope you are going to be doing serious racing. In response to the chrome question. Definately easier to maintain with soap and water. I can't vouch for how they look, but i hope that my input has been somewhat helpful.

Thanx Nick...I might save my $$$ on the brakes since I do not race...
