I have a higher-mileage Aston Martin DB9. It’s close to 70,000 miles now, and I’ve personally put about 10,000 miles on it. The car has been super solid overall with no major issues.

Recently, though, I started having a problem with the convertible top. When I try to put the roof down, it goes through almost the entire cycle normally. But right at the very end, as soon as the roof starts lowering into the storage area and the clamshell/tonneau cover begins to close, it seems like the hydraulics suddenly shut off. The clamshell then slowly drops down onto the roof without latching, and the dash displays “Roof Failure.”

At that point, it won’t let me continue the cycle or put the roof back up electronically. The only way I can recover it is by manually opening the clamshell, pulling the roof back out of the storage area, then restarting the car. After that, I can press the button and the roof will close fully.

What’s strange is that all of the hydraulics seem to function properly up until that exact moment, which makes me think it may be an electrical or sensor-related issue causing the system to abort the cycle at the last second.

I found some old service records from before I bought the car that mention:

- “Diagnosed stalled roof action and rewired tonneau lock relays due to water intrusion”

- “Diagnosed incomplete function of roof ECU due to electrical surges”

Sounds very similar to what I’m experiencing now, so I’m wondering if I may be dealing with the same issue again.

I checked the relays, and they don’t appear to be factory-original. One of the prongs also has this white cable that leads to nothing. I also tried swapping them out to see if anything changed, but I’m still having the same issue.

I’d really appreciate any input on:

- common things to check,

- whether this sounds like the same ECU/relay issue,

- or whether this is something realistically DIY-able.

Thanks in advance. Here are some photos, and a sped up video of what’s happening.

AM says if you replace the brake booster assembly you need to install new brake light stot switch which turn s on brake light when you apply the brake.

I had hissing high pitched noise in cold weather when I apply brake and release it for a while initially it was intermittent but then because more frequent over 2-3 years so finally decided to replace brake booster assembly. Found on eBay from 2016 db9 salvage part came with booster, master cylinder and brake fluid reservoir ( which mine had innumerable fine cracks)

swapping out booster is not tgat difficult but you do have to move coolant reservoir (held by 2 bolts) , disconnect 2 tubes on right of reservoir and one on left side then remove 2 bolts which holds large Reiner tube from bottom of reservoir going to front of car on side wall that will give you flexibility to just flip the reservoir bump about 90 degree , you also have to loose oil dip stick not have to remove completely but loosen it so it can be moved out of the way to creat space for booster to come out

you have to disconnect two brake liners with 11 mm ratchet from master cylinder, remove 2 bolts

you know I will just post a video on this

My front parking sensors are no longer working. The rear and camera work fine. When I press the parking sensor button, it flashes. It should just stay on if I recall.

Any ideas?

VH Platform DB9/DBS/Vanq - Aftermarket Wheel Sizing Opinions

Hey folks,

I love everything about my '13 DB9 except for the factory 10 spoke flat-face 20" wheels. They look fine from certain angles, but on profile view they just don't sit right with me. I know in the 'homeland,' people don't really do aftermarket anything, but I'm interested in switching styles to a wheel with a more basketweave look to add some density to the wheel design, and some concavity in the rear.

Specifically, I'm looking at HRE 520M's (sample below). My car is black, lowered just under 1", and currently using 23/18mm spacers to make up for the horrid factory offset. I'd finish the wheels in brushed+clear for some nice contrast - I think it'll be a neat look, but I can't afford a mistake!

My big question is: 20" or 21"? (Or 20 front / 21 rear?)

I keep going back and forth. 20 seems like an appropriate size wheel for the car, but then again, at certain angles (especially focusing on the rear) it looks too small. 21's do seem to look pretty good on the DB9/S/Vanq's, but some application of 21" wheels on these cars almost looks like the wheels are too big. And 245/30/21 + 295/25/21 tires are almost rubber-band thin.

I can only do this once, and don't want to regret the wrong size. What do y'all think?

Back story- Stuck in traffic for some time. No overheating indication. Temp gauge normal. Performance normal. Oil was checked prior to the drive, yes, proper oil level, the same after the drive. The oil light and message as shown in the pic comes on, sometimes flickering. the lights go off with acceleration ( raised RPMS) Tested the same in neutral. Lights and indicator go off with more RPM's. Park the vehicle for a while, 15 minutes.... start it , no lights. run the vehicle short drive...no lights. Take longer drive, light comes on at traffic light stops, goes off when acceleration begins. Drove the car this past weekend for a couple of short trips, no lights. Wonder if any other DB 9 or V-12 owner has experiences the same? 2007 DB9 w/ 40,000 miles owned 14 years. Mobile1 - 0-40 was in the car. Changed the oil & filter this past week. Same issues. Weather in FL is in the upper 80'd low 90's. Thanks for any ideas or solutions.

Convertible Roof Modules (CRMs) in Aston Martins produced between 2006 and 2015 are well-known for developing faults—unfortunately, replacements are exceedingly expensive, often exceeding £1,000 in the UK. My own 2007 V8 Vantage suffered this failure, and after purchasing a used module, I discovered it exhibited precisely the same fault as the original. With two non-functional units in hand, I decided to investigate further. Ultimately, I found that both modules had failed for the exact same reason—one that can be remedied at minimal cost.

Through testing, I identified the issue as originating in the MCU (microcontroller unit), the main processor on the board. Cooling the MCU—such as by briefly placing the module in a freezer—would temporarily restore operation, indicating a thermal-related internal failure. The proper solution is to replace the MCU, which has likely degraded over time due to ageing of its silicon structure.
Although MCU replacement is not a trivial task for everyone, it is entirely achievable for anyone equipped with the necessary tools and possessing basic SMD soldering skills.

Required components and tools:

Replacement MCU (commonly available on AliExpress): MC9S12DG128VFUE — confirm that the serial number matches the MCU in your module.

xProg 5.55 (commonly available on AliExpress) — used to read and write the secured Flash and EEPROM memory to and from the MCU.

The repair procedure involves desoldering the original MCU from the CRM board and mounting it onto the adapter board supplied with the xProg. You must then read the Flash and EEPROM contents. Afterward, place the new MCU onto the same adapter board and write the previously extracted data to it. Once programmed, solder the replacement MCU back onto the CRM board—and the module should be fully operational.

I completed this repair on my own module approximately half year ago, and it has been functioning flawlessly ever since.
About 15k miles, have owned since new. I’ve been offered 72k for it which is pretty full it seems, but it also seems like these cars are on a bit of an uptrend. Other than the emotional stuff (this isn’t my only nice car and in fact I rarely drive it), is this a keeper or should I reinvest the capital in other fun things? I’m just trying to get a beat on be market for these and if it’s turning.

Hi all! I just got my DB9 back from it's PPI and I am loving it - with one exception.
I am in Seattle and the roads are TERRIBLE. I feel every. single. imperfection in the road. Connection is good 99% of the time but on these roads it makes driving the car physically painful. I know there has been some talk ab out the nitron and KH coilover kits, but not a ton about improving ride quality.

From what I can tell, it would be possible to fit the 2009 bilsteins on my car if I also get the springs, parts 9G43-18B036-AEand 9G43-18W002-AD. There is also the bamford rose kit but I am not in the UK, however that seems better than just the OEM bilstein's. Has anybody had any luck getting that kit in the US? Are there other good options to make the car comfortable on modern US roads? It really is torture here on the west coast.

Thank you all for your help!

I'm planning on getting new brake pads for my 2010 V8 Vantage. My current gripe with the stock pads is the amount of brake dust generated and the squeaking that happens once they're warmed up.

For those who have switched to a different pad, I'm curious what you'd recommend. I don't do track days with my car, just road trips, highway and around-town driving.

Good morning,
I just finished replacing the dampers on my 2010 Rapide, and I am now getting a "ADS off" error message on the dash, and the suspensions go into the "harsh" mode...
I ran my scanner and it's giving me 2 codes:
- C110E = Left rear damper valve fault
- C110F = Right rear damper valve fault
I can erase them, but they will show up the next time I start the car.
I am not getting error messages for the front dampers, so I assume it's not the module.
Any help appreciated, thank you!

I recently purchased a 2019 Aston Martin DB11 V12 that was repossessed, and several of the airbags had been deployed prior to my ownership. I’ve since replaced the pyrotechnic fuse at the battery, and I now have power to both the cabin and exterior lighting.

However, the vehicle will not start. There is no response from the starter—no clicks or cranking. I’ve cleared all stored fault codes, but one code consistently returns: U116987 (Vehicle Theft Alarm Sensor Module).

When attempting to start the car using the push-button, I receive a “Insert Key” message. I’ve also tried using the emergency key multiple times, but it does not enable the vehicle to start. The key fob battery is new, and the fob functions properly for locking/unlocking the doors and opening the trunk.

Any insight or guidance on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
