Porsche January U.S. Sales Drop 13%, Led by Cayenne SUV Decline

Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Porsche SE, maker of the 911 sports car, said January U.S. sales fell 13 percent, led by the Cayenne sport-utility vehicle.

A total 2,595 Porsche cars and SUVs were sold, compared with 2,984 a year earlier, the U.S. unit of Stuttgart, Germany-based Porsche said in a statement distributed on Business Wire today.

The number of Cayennes sold plunged 28 percent from a year earlier to 1,008 SUVs and sales of the 911 fell 10 percent to 829 cars, according to the statement.

I believe it is due more to the fact that Porsche is limiting availablity to dealers in the US due to the weak dollar. The dealers don't have the same day supple like they had a year ago.

I was told the number of units were going to be less due to Porsche exporting units to china. Truth?

Having less units sent to the US. Good or bad for existing Pcar values?

I have not seen updated figures for January '08, but recent trends suggest Porsche has been allocating more units to other geographies, partially due to increasing demand in less developed markets, partially due to f/x ($US depreciating against the Euro = lower US profits w/o raises pricing accordingly).

Jan press release for US says units were down due to tight inventories from high demand in previous periods... but its still a decline Y/Y. Haven't been following that closely month to month.

Scarcity (fewer units) in US in theory should help resale, all else equal (economic backdrop, etc),
