Car and Driver: 599 a Ringer?

You need to join the real world where most Fezza's submitted for testing somehow manage to post significantly better results than they do in owner's hands.

Ferrari has been playing this game for years.

I can testify that the 599 is a beast. If anything Ferrari underestimates the power plant in this car. I've blown the doors off of a Z06, a 430 Coupe, and my own Ford GT. I traded places with a friend who drove the 599 while I drove the GT: Same result. It wasn't even close.

My personal ownership experience with 8 cyl F cars is that "they" overestimate the H.P. on these things. That is not the case with the 599, at least my 599. It's unworldly in terms of straight line power.

I believe this and also think the 599's engine has greater potential than stated.

The car's aerodynamics come into play as well.

It's an extremely well balanced car, and the performance figures substantiate this.

Look at the Scuds times. They are pulling low 3's as well. Pretty damn impressive!

All test cars are gone over, there are companies that do just that.

Their comment doesn't make any sense. All wheel drive doesn't give you a "benefit" off the line - quite the opposite.

SpeedLimit? 08-06-2008 02:22 PM

was it a euro spec model with LC? Cause those times are consistent with it. And they had to be joking being that this was a repeat performance(the 1st car they tested was just as fast). And TheCreditMan isnt joking, EVO mag had a test car that dyno'd 621whp and 493 lbft of torque!

huh? yes, most novices will bog, or slip the clutch badly on 9/10 launches but if you know how to launch them all-wheel drive is a big advantage especially to high horspower, traction limited cars...even stock evo/sti in the hands of very good drag racers (with a lot of practice passes under their belts and probably a glazed clutch or 2...) will run 1.7 60 ft times.

I think he was refering to the added weight of AWD, and once your rolling even a little the AWD is a disadvantage. A 1.7 60' is damn good, but my car runs that with drag radials. :D

trd6478 08-08-2008 01:33 PM

don't they realize how many more factors there are in 0-60 times? gear ratios, tires, LAUNCH CONTROL, aerodynamics...

idiotshilarious

I read that and appreciate the honesty of putting that in print. All to often, these mags are kiss-assers that don't say much bad about any of the major players. I think it's this week's AutoWeek that has a shot of the Bugatti roadster to be auctioned at Pebble and they list a 0-62 mph of 2.5! Let's see that duplicated.

C&D is horse****.

I'm suprised they didn't compare it to a Nissan Murano and declare the Murano better because it has more cup holders and gets better gas mileage.
