What's the best way to purchase a new 430?
 

I currently drive a 2006 Porsche C4s Cab and I am considering trading in for a new 430 coupe. This would be my first Ferrari. What is the best way to purchase the car and how can I "minimize" the anticipated wait time and markup? Any insight you can share with me would be appreciated.

Find the most rural dealer you can and hope to god he likes you. Also deal with the owner of the dealership not the peon salesman, they don't control jack and they don't have the power to help you out.

get an extra 50k -70k out of your wallet.

Is it really going to be that much? I have to believe there is another way?

Thanks for everyone's input. My expectations are not to pay sticker, but to pay something that is reasonable. $50K is not reasonable.

Spending this kind of money on a car I would like to buy if from a reputable source that can backup my purchase. I would also like to be the registered owner in the eyes of Ferrari. I understand this is important if I plan on getting on a list for future Ferrari's. Any thoughts on this?

What is the upside/downside in paying for someone's position? Does Ferrari frown on that? I have a friend that paid $10K for someone's position on a 360 spider last year. That was a good deal for him.

They MSRP at around $165K-$190K depending on the goodies. If you want one today plan to pay a premium of around $50K-$75K.

I'm not exactly sure what was meant by the earlier comment "put down the pipe, Buddy"? I realize there are those that will pay whatever the price just to have one now. The purpose of this thread is to find out the best way (or a better way) to acquire a 430 (in today's market) based on the experience of those that have gone down this path before.

base MSRP on an '06 F1 coupe is $183,756 and a 6spd is about $11k less. This includes prep/del, gas guzz and dest.

Shop around in cold places in Nov, Dec, Jan. North Dakota, Minnesota - places that are the antithesis of Miami and San Diego. I'll bet you could get a nice coupe for 215 (or less) then, especially if you take an off color 6 speed.

Focus on list, imho, is completely irrelevant when discussing F's. Imho, what counts is how much it costs you to drive it and you can be sure the F will depreciate less than most any other car. If you buy a coupe now for 225, drive it 3 - 5k miles for a year, you're likely to get 215 back. How much depreciation will any other car cost you? Probably less, even if you got a new 997TT at 5k less than list right now, it will probably cost you more in depreciation than your 'over list' F car.

Honestly? Call every Ferrari dealer in the country, and speak to the owner or GM. That is the only way to get a "brand new" 430, untitled, and also the only way to start building a reputation with Ferrari as an owner.

The coupes are coming down in price, slightly, from the "bubble" of this spring with the air bag issue, so you would HOPE to pay 30-40k over for an 06 coupe new, some dealers may want 50k + though.

Short of that, contact a reputable exotic dealer and buy a slightly used car, although that will not get you in the best of graces with Ferrari when it comes to buying future cars.

Wholesale for the '06 C4S cab is around $83K and the F430 F1 coupe will be around $240K from an authorized dealer.

But it really is worth it!
