How to relocate garage door opener (lift!)

I want to get a Bendpak HD9 and have realized that my garage door opener is in the middle of where I want my upper car to be when in storage mode.

Looking at this thread it looks like his motor is closer to the door than mine: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...lled-pics.html

Here's what mine looks like. Can I get it moved? It appears that the track needs to be long enough to do a full pull of the door up - so is it even a possibility?

Lift will go where the black car is:

Thanks! THat looks like the answer (except I need new tracks now ). Between this garage door, the lift, installation, 220V electric and epoxying my floor, this is turning into a big project!

you should raise the track to the ceiling anyway because you won't be able to open it when a car is on the lift high in the air.

Look at the link you posted and now imagine the door opens with the car on the lift...

The other option is to get the door track at an angle so that the door goes at a certain degree instead of staying flat to the ground.

Let us know how to goes. I'm in the same boat and the solution would be extend the track and re mount the motor

I'll post a picture when it's done.

I need to replace my tracks so they run along the ceiling as well as buy a new opener (jackshaft). It's a $1000 - 1500 expense installed.

I completed the same project last year and could not be any happier with the turn out. Hired a garage door guy to reconfigure the rails so that they were closer to the ceiling and had him install a new liftmaster opener that raises the door from the side of the spring. In the pictures you can see the difference between the new raised side and the other door that was not updated.

how much did that cost? I called a well reputed garage door company and they said it is their policy not to retrofit current doors to be high lift, so they only do new installations... my garage is only 8 years old, and doors are just fine. should i find another place to retrofit, or do i have to spend the $$$ to get new doors?

I think I paid about $900 to have the rails in my garage raised and a new opener installed (See top left corner in 2nd pic above). The installer didn't have to do anything to my existing doors. Took about 3 hours to complete the job. The rails used to be the same height as the ones on the other garage door in pic 3.

You have paid genuine , all garage door repair experts charge this much amount for such work. But from now if you call expert for any repair first confirm the rates from market and then hire then for repair.

I use a jack shaft by liftmaster. I believe they are 8500? They connect to the shaft above the door. They are WiFi compatible meaning you can open and close them from your phone as well as see if and how long they have been closed. You can even have it send you an alert when the door is open for when Forest Buler is house sitting.😎
