New Group Buy for 997 Red Seat Belts Group Buy at Suncoast! (APR '09)

EDIT:

As of August 4th, 2009, the group buy is over. Thanks to everyone for your interest. You can contact Suncoast for all your seat belt needs and here is an update from Ric at Suncoast with the new price as of August 4th:

Red seat belts for 996/997

Hey guys,

I can get the rears at Sunset Porsche in OR for $190 each but the fronts are more expensive there than Suncoast. I tried to get shipping thrown in at either Sunset or Suncoast but so far have been unsuccessful. It would be nice if they could throw that in, especially for a group buy. I'll keep trying and let you know. At this time, I found a near new pair of fronts so I may only need the rears. More on that later when I confirm fitment. But, either way, I will be getting the rears. So what do you say I give Sunset a call and see what we can do about shipping with a group buy before we make a move either way? It would help to know if you guys want fronts or backs only or both. Let me know so and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks, Chris (916) 412-9763 cpayne63@hotmail.com

Chris, thanks a lot for the reply and info. I will be getting a full set of red ones, front and rear.

The shipping from Sunset was very expensive when I asked for a quote... here is verbatim what I was told in an email from them: "Those are 190.69 each, plus about 40.00 each for shipping as each is considered one hazmat package and has to be shipped individually." So I figured I would go with Suncoast, but to get the 190 price we have to get 4 orders.

Yeah, definitely see what you can do and let us know!

Anthony,

Are you saying that they told you that each seat belt has to be shipped separately at $40 a piece or $40 total for all (4) to be shipped? I didn't get the impression that shipping was going to be that much from Sunset. The only problem with Sunset is that the fronts are more expensive. I'll call them tomorrow and see what I can find out.

Thanks,

Chris

Yeah Chris, I asked for a quote on a set of 4 997 seat belts in red and here is the entire email I got back from Sunset (JeffClark@sunsetimports.com):

On quote 57824. Those are 190.69 each, plus about 40.00 each for shipping as each is considered one hazmat package and has to be shipped individually. Thanks, Jeff.

When I read that, I automatically figured that they were simply unable to send all 4 belts in one package and that the shipping cost was prohibitive to ordering from them. I mean, that would be basically quadruple what Suncoast's shipping quote was. Hopefully they offer you a better solution as I think we are already paying a decent amount for the belts even before adding on shipping, lol.

Later -Anthony

EDIT: Just came to me that he never mentioned the fronts being more expensive, he just said $190.69 each. Maybe they were going to charge you more for the fronts and then cut you a break on shipping by shipping them all in the same box. Haha, I don't know...

Does anyone know what would happen if we put these belts in a 2001 Turbo? It was mentioned in the other threads that it won't work, but no one says why... If it is as simple as changing the buckle (female end) I wonder how much they go for?

Hey Anthony,

I just got off the phone with Luke from Sunset Porsche. I ordered the (2) back belts, split spark plugs, charcoal fresh air filter, oil filter and drain plug gaskets and my total shipping was $16. We determined that only the fronts should have this extra shipping charge because they are the ones that have the gas canisters for belt retensioning when your in an accident and thus the separate shipping requirement and Hazmat charge. So I would double check with Suncoast to make sure that this wasn't an oversight. There was no reason to hold off with my purchase because they said they couldn't go any lower on the belts I bought, with or w/out a group buy. But they've always been very fair with me with regards to giving me the best prices w/shipping. Just thought I'd let you know. I still have to determine whether the nearly new ones I found are going to fit. If not, I will most likely get the fronts from Suncoast. But I was already promised the $190 price from them w/out a group buy so don't wait for me unless you need me for your buy, then I'll jump on board if you need me (provided the ones I found don't fit).

Thanks, Chris

Nice shipping price on those items from Sunset!

OK wait... you can get the $190 price from Suncoast without a group buy or anything? You are obviously a much better negotiator than me, lol!! That is great, you should definitely order them whenever you are ready. You don't have to wait for me because this group buy may never materialize, especially seeing as I'm quickly finding out that I'm not getting anyone a better deal than they could go get themself.

I appreciate the info and have a Happy Easter. -Anthony

Yeah, I don't know about that but I do tend to barter a lot. I'm not a rich guy by any means and was recently laid off so I've really had to get the best deals on everything or I don't get it, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I'll stand by because through my searches I did find a really nice pair on front belts but I won't know for sure about the fitment until this week. I'll keep you posted. If I still need them I'll jump on board with you just so we can get you that price. Thanks and Happy Easter to you as well.

Just to shed some light on the shipping confusion.

We would be able to ship both fronts and rears in the same box, for around $40.

So far the only person I have payment and shipping info for is anthony.

Ryan,
Do you know why these belts won't work in a 2001 TT? Any idea how to get them to work? Are the buckle receptacles prohibitively expensive?
Thanks!
