i know there's the conspiracy theorists on here, but i find it hard to believe that 1) tsuchiya was sandbagging with GT2, or intentionally made the GTR win; and 2) he doesn't know how to properly handle a 911.

yes, the NSX-R (which got crushed by the GT2 in this test BTW) is one of his favorite cars, but he also owns a 7GT3 in addition to the Honda. and he may not be an F1 driver, but c'mon, the man has some serious skills!!!

so the GT-R wins again... maybe ALL those tests had ringers... maybe ALL those journalists and testers were idiots... maybe ALL those tests were part of a grand worldwide plot to put the GT-R back on the map... maybe.

me, i'd apply Occam's Razor to this one, and say the simplest explanation is most likely to be the correct one.

Of course, that doesn't change the fact that i'd have the GT2 over the GT-R in an instant.

oh, and here's a bit of useful information that was NOT seen in the video posted (a friend of mine has the entire video, not just the portion in the above link)...

the GT-R was basically fastest in ALL the tests... UNTIL ITS TRANSMISSION UNCEREMONIOUSLY BROKE DOWN

doh!!! hilarious

anyway, like i said... quick car, but i'd have the GT2 in an instant!

I am in love with the NSX-R. It's a pure driver's car! Look how well it performs with cars that have 100+hp advantage. Too bad that car is not offered stateside. :(

yeah, car is definitely underrated.

there's a guy who go buys the handle "Flemke" over on pistonheads that owns a lot of really driver-focused cars, and is a definite Porsche guy: Manthey 996 GT3, 997 GT3, 996 GT3RS, 959, CGT and a Cup car (not to mention a McLaren F1), most of which he drives or has driven on the Nurburgring. He also has an NSX.

He feels that while the GT3 is obviously faster as a result of more power, and has better brakes, the NSX's handling is ultimately better, as a result of its balance. He also said however, that the ride of a genuine JDM NSX-R is far too harsh for everyday use...

to my eyes, the NSX-R still looks smashing, even if its basic design is almost 20 years old!

Nice post, and I agree with you. Just to point out, I don't think it is Tsuchiya driving in this video (Tsuchiya usually wears his Green Racing suit, and the voice of this guy sounds like that tall, gangly guy with reddish dyed hair who is always doing the touge runs with Tsuchiya). Either way, he is a JGTC driver so he is still great, and it probably just speaks to how much easier it is to drive a GTR (when the transmission isn't broken). Although that doesn't explain the alarmingly high numbers of crashed GTRs we have seen on the road . . . maybe people are TOO comfortable in the car?
