Questions for CGT owners

My father and I went to see a CGT at Ira Porsche yesterday (thanks Alfie) with the intention of buying one. Obviously, the clutch has been a much discussed issue, but our biggest concern was with the height of the vehicle. I believe the service tech said there is only 3.5" or 3.9" of ground clearance. Plus, the front overhang is very long.

Here are our questions:

(1) is this car driveable over speed bumps or in and out of parking lots that have any incline?

(2) Can this car be driven "normally" without damaging the bumper and CF parts underneath? The front is made of the same material as other Porsches and is easily repaintable, but we are concerned about the CF parts underneath.

(3) I know this would be considered sacrilege on this board, but could the front of the car be raised a half inch or so? We've all seen the pictures of the CGT with the front bumper missing. We're not worried about affecting the aerodynamics of the vehicle at 200 mph either!

Basically, we don't want to buy a "garage queen."

TIA,

Eric

The ride height can be raised, but not that much (around 1/2" as I recall). A few months back there was a CGT at the dealer waiting for the parts & tools to arrive to have this done because of scraping problems.

There has been a 3/4" kit promised since AUGUST! No such kit has been produced to date.

from various comments made about the car, that is exactly what it is if you don't want to damage it.

We just spoke to a dealer who said the clearance on a standard Porsche car is 5-1/4". Anyone know what a stock GT2 or GT3 is?

The damage to which he is referring is $35k and requires a 5 month wait for part replacement. BTW, it's for his dad who lives in a heavily speed bumped area!

ESK;

The clearance on my "stock" GT3 is 4.9 inches. A GT2 will be approximately 1 inch less or 3.9 to 4.0 inches.

But the problem isn't "as" much the height as it is that it is compounded by a much longer nose than the GT2 and 3.

Ben's correct. The car would be in Miami half the year so between the speed bumps where they live and the inclines pulling in and out of the garage, the height's a problem. Apparently, the stock CGT is only 86 mm high (3.44").

How much does the Enzo scrape??? Surely the low ground clearance and scraping is not unique to the CGT.

What other $550k? MSRP diff is less than $200k. Maybe that $200k gets you the #1 acceleration and top end numbers this side of an F1?

I have a freind who has a CGT , Ive driven the car alot over the last 3 months. His car scrapes but mostly the small trim that sits under the bumper and not the actual carbon the car is pain to get in and out of his driveway but it is managable , my Gt2 actually sits lower than the CGT and its managable in the "OC".

I think what most of the owners are scraping is that small spoiler that is made of plastic and not carbon.
