Need to see some real 997 GT3 laptimes from Cali and Nevada region

Looking for good condition laptimes from Auto Club Speedway (Roval and infield), Buttonwillow CW13, Big Willow, Streets, Vegas outside course. 997 GT3 primarily, RS helpful too. 996 GT3 not necessary (but search Track Times Socal and keep adding to that database).

I know it's a super expensive car to mod powerwise so want to see what it can actually turn in the laptime department, as the chassis is pretty well done at the outset and will only get better by making it a full on racecar.

Thx

Awesome. Just trying to compare a little and figure out best laptime per $, I think the 996TT is incredibly hard to beat (I had 2.00 flat at BW CW13 and 1.51 at Auto Club roval with the 996TT before I even started working on it, then had 1.21 at SoW CW long config and 1.55 at BW CW13 after working the basics on the car, like camber and 2wd). This was all done on a high performance street tire compund so not a PS2 type tire.

So I'm trying to see how fast a 997 GT3 can run on normal tracks like these, Nordschleife says a lot but I haven't found a comparison to a track setup 996TT.

I did a 1:31.2 in a 997.2 GT3 at WSIR on MSPC's. The car has a track alignment, WC roll bar, cage, and bucket seats.

(Another point of comparison, I did a 1:29.4 on WSIR with a Gallardo LP-560 on Corsa tires with street alignment and no other changes.)

what does a nicely setup 996tt runs at Laguna seca? Great thread. Looking to see some comparisions as well.

Not sure but 80shilling ran his GT2 (which is the closest thing to my 996TT that got stolen) at 1.37, I believe he said that was the first time out that he had a decent track setup on the car.

FYI, I was at WSIR when webster132 was lapping at the GMG private track day... he is fast!!!

I have ran 1:40.7 on falken 452s, with a passanger. Only mod, was ECU flash at the time.

Cheers.

There was a guy here some time ago that posted some videos of himself running 1:36's in his 996 GT3. It had quite a bit of suspension mods I think and he could really drive. Can't remember the screen name though.

Edit: Found the video on youtube. Car was actually relatively stock.

It is of my opinion that a REALLY good/pro driver in a GT3 will set some times that are really hard to beat in a slightly modded Turbo. But it can be done. I'd wager a very good driver in a 997 GT3 could run 1:34's (maybe a tad faster) at Laguna on a tire that's not a true slick. Maybe a R6 or V710.

So a 997GT3.1 will lap a full 6 sec faster than a nicely setup 996tt? assuming similar level drivers. What about high speed tracks like Road America?

heavychevy Jun 6, 2010 07:27 AM

No, not a fully stock one. I'm talking about on a tire like an R6 or V710. Which if you put the stockish 996 TT on those with a good driver (like Enrique) will be 1:37 range. I think 2-3 seconds is an acceptable range for an average size track.

On track like Road America I think the 997 GT3 can run with an untuned 996 TT on the straights as well. Tuned on K16's will still be pretty close and the GT3 will win in the braking zones. On K24's TT runs away on the straights.

heavychevy Jun 6, 2010 10:13 AM

Dont underestimate these cars. You would be surprised what the cars are capable of. With Enrique running 1:40 with a passenger on street tires and that gt3 i think its safe to say the best times are yet to come.

that's my buddy dave (171mph) driving. his car is mostly stock.
RS wing
moton CS
V710
when he did his 136 lap.

obviously his time is very very fast for the 6, the rest of us 6 guys are close to 140. when i drove my 6, stock suspension with R888 i did 1:40.

another 6 with stock suspension, 4. 0 RP, hoosier did 1:37
