How exactly does traction control work on the .1's?
 

I'm not totally clear on its functionality.

What exactly does it do on the GT3 and how does it do it?

And how does it differ from PSM?

I've had cars in the past that would limit wheel spin when it's wet, but didn't really offer much in the way of controlling slides.

My previous boxster and 996 had neither TC or PSM.

I had it on at the track this weekend. It was a new track and for the most part very wet. I didn't see any sort of indicator on the dash that it came on and I still managed to get some pretty interesting (scary) rear wheel slides through the corners.

The TCS on our 997.1 GT3's is derived from the CGT TCS. It interferes the most when you don't have sport mode on. In sport mode - the software lets you have a larger yaw angle and therefore lets you get more sideways before kicking in. It obviously isn't a PSM and isn't going to save your butt if you do a mid corner lift!!

And yes - a yellow light turns on above the digital speedometer when it kicks in. I would test it on a wet parking lot instead of on the track.;)

So how does it work? It is cutting power or applying brakes? I was running in sport mode so that explains the propensity for the car to drift without me even trying.

Cuts power to rear brakes. It can be an issue if you have PCCB brakes.

Also - I would check your diff. as that seems to be the weakest link in the car's rear end lack of stability.

What do you mean it cuts power to rear brakes? Does it cut power and activate the brakes?

My car only has 5k miles on it. I would hope the diff isn't shot but I'll check it out.

I made sure I got my car without ceramics.

hilarious - Gosh I sound like an I D I O T!!

TCS applies rear brakes. So you have to be careful as it has been known to really heat the rear brakes(Since they don't get chance to cool down). I usually turn it off at the track.

It will definitely let you slide the car around with sport mode on but keeping it on while on the track will eat up your rear brake pads a lot faster
