Everyone's favourite car is again EVO car of the year!
I don't know if this has already been posted, but the GT3 RS won the 2010 car of the year in EVO Magazine's (the best car magazine in the world) Car of the Year test, beating out (amongst others) the DBA-GT-R, Evora S, 458 Italia, LFA, and SLS (and also it's brother the GT2 RS). This car of the year test is especially important as manufacturer's regard EVO Magazine's COTY as the most well-respected and unbiased test (due to it's independent roots). Anyway, you have to feel bad for Ferrari. In 2007, when the 997.1 GT3 RS beat the Scuderia, they threatened to stop sending cars to EVO for testing. The 458 is such a clear step forward, a total re-write, and it still manages to lose to an 'evolution' of the 2007 car, itself a car that has been defined by evolution rather than revolution. Ferrari must be livid. That's 6 different variations of GT3 that have been entered over the years. 4 times it's won, and the other 2 it's come in second.
I got lucky and had a chance to drive both cars (the 458 and the GT3RS), although the GT3RS was a 2007
I'm pretty sure the test covers much more than I had the chance to feel driving both cars, but I just felt better driving the GT3RS as a drivers car, I feel more ... happy
the 458 is more of an exotic/head-turner in addition to having amazing performance
if I were to choose, I would pick the GT3RS as it's the more realistic/affordable option for me, but there is no doubt in my head that I won't be buying a 458 if I had the money
I feel sorry for Ferrari losing to the GT3RS twice when they did the work and produced 2 of the most astonishing cars known to mankind IMO (the scud and the 458), but Ferrari was not made to be everyone's car. I wouldn't be pissed if I were them

Yeah, they are. I mean, they're biased in a non-biased way, if that makes any sense. Meaning, magazines like road and track have much deeper corporate roots, so they sugarcoat almost everything. EVO Magazine's raison d'etre is for the feel of driving, not speed. I think they're biased towards the 911, but that's because the car delivers more natural 'feel' than the equivalent Ferrari. The 997 GT3 did lose to a 599, and the 997.2 GT3 lost to the Evora last year, but otherwise the GT3 always wins. If the two cars (italia and RS) were the same price, I'd take the Italia all day.
