Thanks MC968CS, it helps a lot and feedbacks converge now. I think I will forget about 19'' and orientate my choice towards rims 18x11 rear for 295.
I will investigate Nitto (I did not know before) but in Europe it is pretty difficult. In 295, I have the MPSC anyway so it is not problem.
And I understand that running MPSC in 295 is better than R888 in 315...

I will post some pics of my 996 GT2 Club sport when it is ready for track !

Yeah, the 888s suck. I'd forget about those. Hard to believe that Toyo owns Nitto and the 888 and NT01 are such different tires. You might try calling Nitto in Europe at TEL.+32 89 36 01 11 and check on the availability on the NT01. At their price point, it might even be worth having a few sets shipped in from the US.

I think I'll run 295 on a 11''.
12'' are too big to run 295, aren't they ?
11'' are ideal for 295 but if one day I want to run 315, I cannot !...
thanks

I had some 295 Hankook Ventus TDs on my GT2 wheels and although they were stretched they were quite fast. Still waiting for my 315 NT01s to catchup.

R888's def. don't suck, I ran many many sets and always ran some very fast times on them.. And I went 335 on the rear of my GT2, which I found out after dropping down was rolling over a tad too much..

I switched to NT01 Nittos (when I wouldn't use full slicks or hoosier R6's) and they are my preferred choice, for all year round street tires and track tires. They last a LONG time, are so consistent, amazing grip on the street/colder temps and hell even in the wet which wasn't that terrible (but i'm use to driving in crazy conditions) on shot tires..

I ran 245/315 setup on , 315 on 12" rear OZ racing/RUF wheels, and was a great setup....

Hi everybody,

I have tried on my 996 GT2 OEM size in the front (235) and 295/30 in the rear, all in 18" and in MSC. It is roughly OK but I wish I could have a bit more grip in high-speed curves. So I am currently looking at the interest of running MSC2 on 19" possibly in 235/35 and 305/30.
MSC2 is not available yet in 18" whereas in 19" yes.

Any feedback or advice on that set-up ?

Many thanks

Hi,

Why would you be sizing down 2 tire width sizes (I understand width per tire/brand vary) but from stock sizes of 315 rear width?

Are you running 18's or 19's, not very clear? What type of tire are you looking for?

IMO, Nitto NT01 have been my ideal and best setup for street/daily driving and track work .. best all a rounder IMO !

Hello,

Sorry maybe I was not clear...
I am talking about track tires only as I use my GT2 only for that...
My track tires are Michelin Pilot Sport Cup (MPSC) and I do not to use other tyres than Michelin. The sizes I have now are 235/40 R18 and 295/30 R18.
The problem is that the OEM size in 18" does not exist for rear: only 295 is available ...I would like to have more grip so I am thinking of switching to 19" rims. In that case, I could run 235/35 R19 and 305/30 R19 or even 325 but I think it would be too large... The other advantage of 19" is that it is now available in MPSC2 which is the model replacing MSC...In 18", no MPSC2 available yet.

My question is: did anybody try to run 19" on track on a 996 GT2, with what tire size and what is the feedback ?

Is it more clear ?

Thanks

Okay.

But why are you just using Michelin? They aren't the most superior tire out there in terms of grip, wear, certainly not cost either.

Going to 19's is not the answer, 18's will always be better suited for the 996 gt2, it's whole geometry was designed around 18" wheels, unless you change it all which is what you'd need to do setting wise to fully get the benefit.

But anyway, still, shorter rim/less rotational mass will still be better.

PS i'd go 325 on a gt2 before 305 any day ! I use to run 335 rear, I needed the extra contact patch.

Thanks iLLM3,

I use Michelin because I take part in a championship where it is compulsory. And apart from the Pirelli Trofeo, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup appears to be the best track street-legal tyre in Europe. So I have to stick to Michelin.
I do not mind changing the geometry, I have to do it every 6 months anyway to make sure the set-up is still OK.
Right now I have camber of -3°00 in the front and -2°00 in the rear.
OK for your preference on 325 in R19, indeed it should be better. But my fear is not to have enough space in the rear wings... My suspensions are brand new.
I know the 18'' are better for GT2 but when I see 997 GT3 RS in 305 R19" with less power and less torque, I think my 295 in 18 in the rear is too light !! And I wish I could have more grip

You think if I try 235/35 and 325/30 it could be OK ?

Many thanks !

19s are crap for serious track work. Pretty much all 997GT3 guys run 18s and that's what Cups run also. If you need to stick with Michelin I would run the 24/64-18 fronts and 300/65-18 rears. Those will give you killer performance on 9/12" wheels. That's the way to go.... In case you were wondering, the 325/30/19 Sport Cups will not work. It is way too tall at 26.7". I'm running 305/35/18s which are 26.4" and it's very very close. I am at 96/124 ride height by the way.

Thanks a lot, pwdrhound.
I absolutely need to have street-legal Michelin... So Michelin Pilot Sport Cup are the best choice I have. Then it is only a matter of size in diameter and width.
You are right, the 325/30/19 is too tall, so I need to forget it.
Now the choice can be 305/30/19 which should be OK at 26.2" (rim + tyre) if I am right, which gives a bit more space than your 26.4".
I agree with you that cup and 997 often run 18" wheel but never with street-legal tyres, only with pure race tyres...
The question now is is: will 235/35/19 & 305/30/19 be better than my current set-up 235/40/18 and 295/30/18 ?

Thanks !

The only way to know for sure which is better for you is to run both and see which you prefer. There are many variables. I run the 25.5"/26.4" combo(997GT3 sizes) and find that it provides better grip and handling over the stock shorter 996 sizes. The taller rears give you a bigger contact patch, carry a higher load rating, and improve the car's gearing. If I had to choose I'd go with the Sport Cups in the 235/35/19 and 305/30/19 size. I run that as my occasional street set up but at the track I get much better performance with the 245/40/18 and 305/35/18 combo. Both are virtually the same diameters.
