Money, congratulations.
I have a 991S that I use as a daily driver in a small town. I as well am not a "Track guy" but am enamored by the GT3 ( looks, stance, new PDK, sound). My commute is about 5 miles each day in a small town so I rarely get a chance to wind the car out unless it's on a weekend etc. What are your impressions of the GT3 for daily driving. I have read that the ride is not too stiff and tolerable (I have SPASM which I like). My hesitance is that I read that under 5K rpm (which honestly is 80% of my driving) the car actulally has less torque and feels more sluggish than a regular 991. I wonder if your impressions are the same? I like the ability to get on my car when merging on the main road and give it beans for a few seconds before having to let off, I'm not sure I have room in my commute to wind the car up in the higher 7-9k rev ranges where the GT3 "comes alive!" I would appreciate your thoughts. I don't want a turbo as I've had one before and although the punch is there, sound, stiffness of the ride is lacking. I have a McLaren Spider that I use when I want the rush, sound, experience. I just wonder if it makes sense to get a GT3 as a DD given my commute. Hope this makes sense.

I too have a short commute to work, about 7 miles, and I'm assuming your roads are similar in TX. Flat and straight with the occasional rougher road, but there are no potholes or other major hazards like cracks from ice expanding. Rough roads do feel rougher than before.

I would guess the ride is very similar to a SPASM that has been lowered a bit further while driving in Sport suspension mode. It is certainly stiffer than the C2S, but it's very doable for daily use. I doubt I really use the Sport suspension option in it unlike I did in my C2S.

I will say that I'm probably going to need to upgrade the audio in this car to mask all of the rattles and squeaks. Due to the stiffer ride, I can only imagine how many rattles this is going to develop. I think it's a small price to pay though.

The first thing you will notice is the difference in power/torque delivery of the two cars. I think the difference will be forgotten in very short order as this car revs infinitely faster than the C2S, so it really doesn't matter that there is a tiny less daily driving torque. You can get in the power band in a very short time, so I don't think this would bother you.

This car is definitely made for higher reving. It almost feels cranky when below 5,000 RPM, especially when cold. So much so, I had to make a post on Rennlist asking if my car was acting normally. You can hear and feel the clutches engage and clunk when approaching a light or starting out. The PDK-S is very manual like.

You don't need to wind the car up to get it moving. It's so light and responsive that it still gets scary fast shifting at 6,000 RPMs. I like you will find it hard to take the car to redline more every once in a while on a back road. I feel very comfortable with the way the car delivers very linear power even to lower RPM limits.

I hope this helps.

Yowzer! GT3 in sapphire blue looks amazing, good choice!

Thank you Money! Makes a lot of sense. I have a friend that has one on order. I can't wait to drive his. The quick revving thing has me intrigued! I absolutely love everything about your car. It's Perfect. Congratulations

Kidding aside. Congrats on the new car! Color looks great and I see you couldn't get away from "platinum" colored wheels...

great story, even better pics. my jaw dropped to see sapphire blue on a 991.

and yeah, you are going to confuse the Porsche fanbois with that plate :D although by your description there aren't many of those guys up where you are

Ha, I've only had one of two people acknowledge the plate on the C2S, so I don't think anyone will really notice it on the GT3. I really want FLT6, but it's taken.

Oh man. What was the actually story? I'm guessing they were making stuff up at the dealer. I've met you guys before and have been down to the shop.

Can you offer me some advice on what to do with the exhaust? I think Sharkwerks bypass is a must, but I don't like how the valves don't open until about 4,000 RPMs. I'm guessing the bypass doesn't do anything for this.

They definately weren't making that up unfortunately, I was there on Saturday picking up a Cayenne Turbo S with another client. The original person who ordered that car ran into some financial trouble some months back after the car was spec'd and ordered. We had a client interested who assumed the spot but was traveling and went MIA for the few days after the car came in and lost it as a result.

Bypass is killer, I'm guessing you want something more obnoxious pre-4K (or need to put your foot into the gas more often and go over 4K RPMs! ) There are some full exhaust options out there coming out, I'd expect after Sema we'll see a bit more. :)

Thanks Wes. I wondered for a few seconds where the car came from. That was until I saw. I lost all fear then.

That's good advice on the exhaust. It's hard for me to wait for things, but that seems like the smart thing to do.

Congrats Money. Hope to make a similar transition shortly. Since you had the AWE (I have it also) you may enjoy the IPE exhaust. Appears to be on the much louder side of the spectrum.

I need to do something. I'm trying to make myself wait until after SEMA to see if something cool comes out.

Michelin Velvet Technology

"A special mold tooling process has led to the development of Michelin Velvet Technology, a process that has made it possible to create more contrast on sections of the outer sidewall using micro-geometry techniques that absorb light. The geometry of the texture permits variable contrast to create shades of black that have the look of velvet."

Naturally, I've shown quite a few people my car over the past few days. The thing that people go crazy over the most is the Velvet looking lettering on the Sport Cup 2 tires. If you haven't noticed this, then go rub your fingers on the lettering of the tires. Then show some people that don't know squat about cars and watch their reaction. :)

Stunning GT3, OP!

I enjoyed this journal as much as I enjoyed your C2S journal...

How about a quick comparo btw the X51 C2S and your new GT3? Are they day and night different, or are we talking about small differences?

My only fear is the GT3 will sound like crap compared to a C2S with the PSE, when chugging along at less than 6k rpms...

Drive it in good health.

Cheers/B

nice write up! love the color, Congrats man!

Congrats on the car! Great color. Where are the interior pics? :p

Thanks man! This car is very different from the C2S. It's lower and stiffer. The stance is amazing with the concave rear wheels and flush fit. The steering feels very hydraulic and taught rather than just feeling like a really good electric version.

The car doesn't sound like crap. It just doesn't make a whole lost of noise until you get to about 3,500 RPMs. I definitely want an exhaust that is more substantial than just a bypass that address the lower RPM weak sound without sacrificing torque.

Although my C2S was awesome, when you look out the rear view mirror and see the giant wing out the back and feel even more connected this makes me thing "Supercar."
