Byron dont worry about it. You picked two of the best Porsches ever made. Go find some and test them and see what you like, just be aware of these two.

Forget about him. Most of owners here would want to know more about you before we can make recommendations. The Gt2/3 is very different from the rest of the P-cars. One needs to track these cars to get appreciation for the word GT. We are all beginner at one point. Teach me more dirty HI words.Cheers.

Vincent - Thats the key. There really is no tracking or track events going on here in Maui so a 997S may be the way to go. My personal information is 38 years old and have owned different sports cars in my lifetime except a mustang but who knows. Have driven porsches since 1987 starting with a 912 (owned by my dad) then I had 1983 Carrera (SC) and now selling my 996 which I have owned for 4 years (Last 2 owned by me. Thats for sixhole) Not a track expert but a hardcore surfer yes. Hopefully this helps when people leave comments Mahalo.

Byron,

I would go with the gt3 if you want to have some fun in the backroads. Also the one thing the gt2/gt3 have over the 997S is they are porsche's "special" models so to speak. Like stated above they are pretty much street legal race cars. If you learn how to drive it right, pretty much nothing else can step up to you in the corner's and few cars can keep up on the straights.

GT3 is my vote, fun & performance.

For someone that does not know these cars very well, perhaps you should buy a Ford Mustang.
Not on Maui. He'll get mistaken for a rental car.

If you're hardcore surfer then you are definitely not a faint at heart but an adrenaline junky. You are use to speed and love to be beat around. My friend I think you can Learn to like the GT2. I love the turbo rush it's never enough you keep wanting more. GT2 demands respects on the road and the track regardless who's going against you. It 's IMO a true driven supercar. My 2cents.

Hi Byron,

Regardless of cost, I'd go with the 997S Cab as others have suggested. Having been to Maui several times, I can assure you a Turbo/GT2/GT3 would be an excercise in frustration. About the only place you could open the car up would be Honoapiilani Hwy between Lahaina and Kapalua or heading north towards Kahului. The stretch between Kahului and Paia on the way to Hana might also be a good place too. Still, the biggest problem is tourists as well as locals crossing into your path from side streets. Most of the highways have speed limits of 55mph at best and some stretches are as low as 35mph. In other words, any sort of sprited type of driving and you will scare the crap out of anyone in your path.

Now, if you were on Oahu and had access to H1/H2/H3 it would be a different story. Plus you could be doing some big pimpin' for the honeys in Waikiki.

Hope that helps.

Vincent - I will be going to Honolulu in a couple of months and hopefully the dealership will have a selection of cars to try ex. gt3, gt2, 997S and a turbo. I just want a car that I can utilize and not waste the performance it was built for like some people do. Mahalo

Beavis - Great comment about pimpin. Maybe I have to move back to Kailua then the car thing would not be a problem. LOL

Actually, come to think of it, there are some good stretches of roads on the north shore of Oahu that are not too busy, especially this time of year. Better yet, you can rip past the pineapple plantations on some of those roads and get away with it.

I live in Orange County and have a 996TT with Stage 1+ and it gets to be frustratiing with the traffic we have here. Compared to what you have to work with as far as roads and traffic in Maui, OC is like Montana.

Do take a test drive of all three in Honolulu - just be mindful of your envrionment in Maui when doing so. You are spot on when you don't want to waste the car's potential where it can't be driven. I guess it would be like having a race horse cooped up in a stable all day.
