How is the market currently for a 991 GT3RS?
 

I'm interested in picking up a 991 GT3RS, and I've noticed that there are a lot for sale. There are 42 cars local to me just on Autotrader. Many of them have asking prices basically at or over the original MSRP. Is the market really supporting this? I was under the impression that the GT3RS is not actually that rare. I haven't been following long enough to see if these cars are moving, but I saw on one listing that the price was reduced more than 2 months ago. Is it smarter to wait until the 992 GT3 comes out to see if these prices start diminishing?

I just purchased one at msrp but I believe that is rare as I had a local dealer that would not move off 20+ over- I offered 5 over and they passed and sold it that weekend

Are you looking at the 991.1 or 991.2 3RS? The .2 just came out and all have ADM ~$25k the last I checked.

If you're talking about the .1 they should not be listed at/above MSRP as a lot are turning in now.

Either way, the longer you wait the cheaper they will be. Demand is still pretty strong for the .2 and will likely stay that way...

I'm looking at the 2016 991.1 GT3RS. There are now 45 cars locally on Autotrader. They don't seem to be moving, but most are pegged just below to just over MSRP.

The Porsche GT cars have always held up well. Just look at the GT4, 996 GT3s, and 997.1/2 GT3s which are still holding strong. Some of 997.2 3s are still trading at or close to MSRP even 8-9 years later. Also, when these were released the PTS/ custom painted cars all went for over MSRP and were unobtainable for the longest time. I don't think that most would cross shop a new 992 vs. an older gen GT3 so I wouldn't expect a huge drop but who knows. I hope you find what you need, they are fantastic cars!

Since my original post, the number of local 2016 GT3 RS's for sale on Autotrader has increased from 42 to 48. None of the ones that interest me have sold. I did reach out to one 3rd party dealership about a car and was told that they sent it that day to auction and they would let me know if it doesn't sell and comes back. Will keep following...........

The 991.1 GT3RS is a flop. Well, it's a GREAT car but it's a flop at everything people were hoping it would be- "Rare and value gaining machine". It's the only reason people were paying a premium for it. When looking on professional test driving this car, i immediately notice it wasn't what it meant to be, quotes- "it's like regular .1 gt3 (which is not that good) but 10% better" "it has more over steer than i would prefer" and the deal breaker- the .1 GT3RS was proven to be slower or as fast as a .1 turbo S on multiple tracks. So if it's slower on the track from a "soft daily user", what is it for? noise? "fun" ? (a go kart is fun, this is a super car). So, it's slow on straight line, its slow on the track, Well, it's not rare. They end up making about 5000 (!) of them. it should be sold for the price of regular .1 gt3 plus some extra.. and thinking people were paying 30-50 percent over mspr just 1.5 years ago.
don't listen to 20 years old youtubers next time and think on you own.
by the way, the .2 gt3rs is a different animal.

The only car that has sold recently in my area is a signal green GT3 RS (the listing disappeared off of Autotrader) and CNC Motors sold their lava orange at dealer auction. Still a lot of inventory. I notice the prices trickling down slowly. Overton Automotive has a lava orange that has very few options (no PCCB) that they lowered the price yesterday to "the lowest priced GT3 RS in the nation" at $172,300. Right after Porsche Irvine listed a lava orange with PCCB for $169,995. I've been following the price trend since the beginning of the year, and the prices are consistently dropping as cars sit on dealer lots. I'm curious to see what the true market value of these cars is.

Ironic that many people including dealers are asking 5-20k over list for 2018 GT3s of which many are over a year old and very low miles. There are a ton for sale. I do not believe they are selling- every one who wanted one has it.
