Did you guys catch Jay Leno's CGT comment on Payback?

They aired a show tonight called Payback where Jay Leno gave a C6 convertible to a comedy club owner. He was saying that his Z06 Corvette is something you could drive hard without fear of breaking it. Then he mentioned that a buddy of his has a CGT (he has a CGT as well) and bumped a curb that resulted in $135k in damage and none of the damage was visible!

135K in damage, dang, I could by a low miles GT2 for that kind of money! Who wants to donate to the Let's get Scott a GT2 fund? Here's the one I'm lusting after http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-...QQcmdZViewItem

I saw that, and noticed the remark.. but i think it was tongue firmly in cheek!

after all, he is a.... comedian!!!

but what did annoy me is, I thought I heard him pronounce it Porsh....

I would think that Leno knows better, b-u-t when I'm talking to non-car-luvin' types, I generally pronouce it Porsh. There have been enough occasions where it's obvious everyone in the room thinks you're being a pretentious prick by pronouncing it Porsh-uh that I try and drop it down to the lowest common denominator.

He said "$13x,000 in damage from a curb, and that you couldn't even notice." So maybe he was rounding up to make the point :p

I heard it too (Good show BTW even my girl enjoyed it) I thought to myself 135K in damge he hit the wheel doing 100 at the track. Not curb rash.

I was interested in that one while looking for a GT2. It had a sales pending and then I guess the buyer backed out.

I am curious to know what happened to cause the sale to fall through.

I saw one that was rear-ended by a plumbing truck. Would've been $1-2k damage on a 997. For the CGT, 6 months in the shop and $150k later....ouch

ist bec. of the carbon fiber.. tehy dont repair cf they replace it. they do not want the structural integrity of the car to be compromised..

Exactly, one bump of a curb from the wrong angle could bend an A arm in a normal car. I was unfortunate enough to do this once in high school. A bump in a CGT could crack a suspension mounting point or something. Carbon chassis = $$$

BTW: Love your new avatar Matt!

maybe it was seinfeld? :D

Porscheboy16 Jul 14, 2006 09:51 PM

Maybe someone slammed into a curb at 25-30 MPH?

That could do some serious damage that wouldn't be visible from 20 ft away.
