SL Brakes

Test drove an SL today with carbon brakes and was suprised at the brakes. I wasn't able to feather the brakes to come to a smooth stop it either grabbed or not. To all the SL owners out there, is this what you've experienced and do you get used to it after awhile or does it remain troublesome?

Thanks for the input.

Never drove an sl, but almost bought one. I do have the ceramics on the vette and first impressions on street use are unremarkable. I do not notice any significant difference than my other cars with steel rotors. You may have driven one with some issues..... One great advantage of the ceramics are the lack of brake dust! Good luck with the hunt! Also on a side note, make sure the car is not an orange county lambo. I've heard they are still under litigation and there may be some discreptancies with the titles.

That was my experience when I test drove one with the ceramics. I ended up getting one without ceramics. It's a pretty consistent complaint of those brakes especially for street use.

Thanks for the replies.

Roncfpz - are you able to feather the brakes without ceramics or do they still grab a bit?

The steel ones are smooth, but I would guess that they probably fade a bit with heavy track usage vs. what the ceramics would provide.

They still grab a bit but much easier to modulate vs the ceramics. I did not like the feel of the ceramics at all coming from PCCBs on my 997 Turbo.

Ive heard that about them too, but when I test drove an SL I loved them and didnt notice it at all. Maybe its that you try and brake waaaaaay too shoftly, and should provide more dirrect and consistant preasure and dont brake like a lil girl

I second Ron. The CCBs are overkill, especially if you don't track. A lot of people say that you can get used to it, but before I got an SL, I spent a good 30~45mins behind a car with the CCBs on a test drive.

The outcome was that it would be something that will always be an annoyance to me and may take away from the enjoyment of owning the car. Needless to say, I got one without the CCBs.
