Throttle application is a neat trick, so I guess he wanted to explore what adding quite a bit of it mid corner while already close to the limit of rear grip would be like.

i have to guess, he had so much faith in his AWD gallardo. fail.

 

Ya the front hardly gets anything until the rear spins, and even then it's so passive that there's a bit of lag. Great for pulling you out of long drifts and in the wet, useless against sharp throttle application errors.

Great, because otherwise you couldn't snap the tail out to cure understeer
