SE vs. 570-4? Anyone Driven The Two?
SE vs. 570-4? Anyone Driven The Two?
Looking for feedback and experience from anyone who's owned or driven both.
Engine differences aside, would you say the 570's changes and updates significantly improved the Gallardo enough to justify a price difference for someone who was considering a pre-owned version in either model year?
Anything particularly quirky or troublesome with either in their first MY? (SE was only 1 year of course).

SE is really no different than a stock Gallardo that's heavily optioned and with a different color scheme.
LP570 has the newer LP engine with more power, newer body style and egear system.
The two are much different. A better comparison would be between a 2008 G SL vs 570.
Price point is very much different too. You are talking about almost $100k difference.

If you don't mind me chiming in and asking another question Heist, but why is there such a big price difference between same model year 550-2, and 570-4 besides the 2wd and Awd and 20hp difference?
I've driven the 2007 G and the 2012 LP550-2 and the 570-4 Performante. I traded my 07 for the Perf.
550-2 v 570-4: The interior in the 570 is, to me, superior in every way. The 550-2 feels a little cheap in comparison. I did not like how the 550-2 handled on the track with RWD, partly because I didn't want to be the guy that wrecked the 550-2 and primarily because I'm not a race car driver. My 07, in comparison, was absolutely glued to the track even using regular PZeros and I never lost confidence in the AWD. I have not tracked the 570-4. I like the 570 exterior better than the 550-2. If I was choosing between a 550-2 and my 07, I would've kept the 07 because I don't think the performance and exterior look of the 550-2 warranted the money to upgrade. I also seriously considered TT'ing the 07, but then found the deal on this 570-4 (it only had 1200 miles) and decided to put the money into upgrading to the 570-4 first.
The exterior and interior differences, throttle response and performance account for the price difference, and I think give the 570-4 the win. I was willing to pay for the exterior difference and performance difference. Is it "worth" the money? There's no universal answer. It was to me.
570-4 v 07 G: The 570-4 changes are what tipped the scales for me in deciding to upgrade. While I would've skipped upgrading to a 550-2, I pulled the trigger on 570-4. A big part of that was price, I got a smoking deal on the 570-4 imho. Pros of the 570 over my 07, in my opinion:
*Throttle response is immediate, compared to bogginess on the 07 spyder
*Interior is way better, lots of carbon fiber, the alcantra is cool
*I like the bumper and wing and stripes.
*It is quiet when cruising, and loud WOT
*No drone/whine at low RPM, which I did have in the 07 until I changed the exhaust
*Sounds bad *** at higher RPMs!
*The car doesn't sound like it's under pressure or strain in 1st gear at 4-5k rpm
*No E-gear jerkiness, it's gone.
Cons:
*It wanted to eat my garage wall the first time I parked it. We've worked out our differences now.
*You still can't drag race anybody worth drag racing from a stop sign.
*$100k more than my last car
*houstonT lives down the street and is still faster.
Other observations:
*The exhaust note on the new 570 is deep and more "gurgling at low speed"--similar to a super quiet version of the fabspeed CF exhaust where the sound seems to "roll around" inside a tube (I had the cf on my 07. loud as a motorcycle).
*It took an hour of driving to get used to how the car reacts to throttle. Much more sensitive than the pre-LP car.
*The Alcantra steering wheel will have to be replaced at some point. I'm not going to drive around in the Houston summer wearing ****ing driving gloves.

I can tell you the new 570 which is direct injected doesn't sound nearly as good as the older engines. I drove in one 570 back to back with a SE. I took the SE that was heavily modded and happy.

I was going to mention this, but I didn't want anyone to say "oh you poseur" and roll your eyes.
There was something decidedly different sounding in the older engine which really aurally made my heart flutter and jump. The high pitched wail it let out once it began to spool up pass the 3-4K mark. It was something I immediately noticed was missing when I first heard the drive bys in a 570, which disappointed me.
The sound of the new DI engine just doesn't stoke my fire like the older one did. Not that it sounds (or even performs) bad - but the pricklies don't show up on my arms.
And let's be honest, for many of us, when it comes to our machines the way it sounds does play a role in the purchasing decision. Ducati, Harley, Ford and Chevy have been trading on this aspect for decades.
jhbchess: Great writeup. Now for the specifics, What about the 550 made it "cheap"? Was it the materials used?
I also thought the exterior had no difference between the 550 and 570, can you please point out the subtle differences?

I had a new 07 coupe for a year and a half, which is essential the same as the 06 SE. I also had an 08 SL for two years. Once I drove a new LP I immediately made the switch to a 560/4 then immediately to a new 570 (w/a UGR TTBolt on kit
The transmission engagement/shifting is light years ahead. The clunkyness of the older car suspension is gone. The newer cars have better bump absorption. The interior full cabon is much nicer than the leather except the steering wheel which I would prefer leather. As great looking as the pre-LP cars are, they look a little dated in comparison to the new car in my opinion.
All of the G cars are great and reliable but I would recommend the newer the better!
My current ride!

interior was mainly the grey plastic in the 550 v carbon in the 570. seats carbon shell and alcantra in the 570 v much softer leather in the 550. it was a "feel" thing. totally relative, the 550 interior blows away other cars. we're splitting hairs at he margin now.

Alcantara wheels are easy to clean, hot soapy rag, get the alcantara wet, then use a toothbrush to clean and fluff up the matted down areas, then a white cotton towel to clean off residual. Stay at it until no more dirt comes out. I use some cheap Isotoner driving gloves, work great, even on high outside temp days.
Carbon rear diffusor
Carbon side sills
Different front bumper
Carbon race seats
Carbon door panels
Carbon center console
Carbon steering wheel
Carbon rear wing
Light weight alcantara used inside instead of leather.
The power difference is easily rectified with an ECU flash, bet you could even
find a factory service tech to load the 570 program for you.
The rear diffusor alone is over 10 g's.
You can get a pre-owned 2010-2011 SL for around 200-209k with less than 3k miles. You can get a 2011 Performante for around 215-230. Very close if not even to the price of an LP550.
