Has the value of Lambo's changed with Audi's input/ownership

Are they better/worse off? What about build quality or holding their value?

I think the intrinsic value of Lambos have gone up, but the resale value is less due to the increased number of Lambos sold.

How much has production increased?

Quote directly from Stefan Winkelmann:

"Lamborghini is 42 years old. For the first 40 years, we never sold more than 250 cars. In 2003, it rose to 1300 and last year 1600. We have decided to stay at the same volume this year."

I think they are better off with Audi then when they were on their own, per say.
The quality has stepped up a huge notch, and as it was said they are producing more cars then before, that will have an effect with resale.
If there are more cars out there of course the price will reflect that scenario.
Over all though they made the cars within reach to customer who didnt want to spend $300k for a Lambo and gave us the Gallardo, same thing Bentley did with the Continental GT to some degree. Except that Bentley attract a whole new audience of customers.

How may Gallardo's vs Murci's? Do they publish numbers or % of model and spyder/coupe?

They have sold just over 2000 Murci's since it's initial launch.

basically approximately 400-500 per year. so about 33% of them are Murci's anually

its simple. production went up A LOT! resale value suffers greatly, but i think they are easily a better produced car. who really buys a car for resale value anyway. its about having fun in the car and enjoying it. if you want to buy a car as an investment for resale value, but a ferrari.

Very true, the only cars out there that are investments are the muscle cars I think.
To think that 15 years ago I could of bought a 70 Challenger with a hemi, all numbers matching for a measley $45k. Nowadays, I dont even want to say how much they are going for, thats how mad I am at myself.

thats true, and i agree with you. it just seems that most(not all) people who buy ferraris will keep milage so low (as is key in the resale value) that they see it more as almost as investment and dont enjoy the car enough. i see a lot of lambos these days that are 04s and 05s with a lot of miles. 7-10K miles, and have seen some higher. that shows me they are driving the cars. try that with a ferrari and you will have serious problems. the lambos are built(gallardos at least) to the point where you can use them as daily drivers now. are they as realiable as a Porsche, heck no, but they are much more relaible than many others in the sports car/exotic market.

WAAAAY BETTER. Let's not even speak of the huge improvement in build quality. Take a look at the consoles... all Audi. If there were one of the few takeovers that ended in success... the Audi/Lamborghini deal would be one of them. Audi gets a high end sports car to test bed (ala Gallardo --->R8) and Lamborghini gets Audi's superior parts bin and mixes that in with some good old craftsmanship. Lamborghini has had the best year ever. And there are more Lambos being driven consistently than Ferraris. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a stallion-fan but the bull is very persuasive simply b/c it can be driven! isn't that what a car is about?

Simba Dec 24, 2006 10:29 PM

I'd say from a company valuation, they've certainly gone up due to the increased production and better quality control.

From a purist/soul standpoint, not so much. Used to be that Lamborghini represented the craziest of the crazy with things like the Countach and Diablo. They were loud, fast, hard to drive, and unapologetic of each.

These days with AWD, flappy paddles and Audi blinkenlights, that image has been subdued quite a bit from what it once was. Now it's "just another" great looking exotic that any hollywood twit can wrap around a phone pole. Without the racing history that Ferrari and Porsche enjoy, I wonder what the company will look like in ten or twenty years time.

Then again, maybe Lambo will crank out a stripped down, RWD, turbo Gallardo with a real gearbox to make people like me happy. I won't really care who makes the dash switches then. ;)

I agree with simba while while I love the Murci it is rather tamed down. I'm hoping that with the new success of the brand they will be able to give us an ultimate lambo that is stripped down and raw like the GT3. It must have the scissor doors though, a lambo isn't a lambo without them...
