oh wow after doing a little bit of search there's tons of better options out there for me. i.e the one roy's got!

PCJR 10-07-2009 06:17 PM

I'd bet $$ that there will be a handful of '07 S's
under 40K by late winter.
It's a great car but a very narrow market.
My goal is to get one before next season also!

NOLA911 10-08-2009 07:46 AM

Any reason? Yes, you can't handle the fun!

There are sometimes exige s out there for under 40. One sold in 30 seconds a couple weeks ago on lotus talk. 35thousand dollars.. I recommend going to their classifieds, lots of good cars and information.

By the way, dont sweat the mileage... I have 60k on mine, its a toyota drivetrain.. I change the oil and thats it.

I might suggest you buy a supercharged model. I know its a bit more but like I did you will eventually crave more power. You also get a factory intercooler and a years more warranty. To do over I would have gone this route. There are great pulley and eCU tuning options for the S model.

zeeshan66 10-11-2009 09:43 AM

thanks for the feedback guys I know i wouldn't regret asking about this car. the S model seems to be the best route i will hold off until later this year and see what will pop up

I actually drove that exact car (the red Exige). It was a VERY fun car to drive, and this coming from a Cayman S owner. I will tell you that you can probably find better examples out there, though, just as mentioned above. This one had some good rock chips just in front of the rear tire, along with the more traditional chips. However, you could easily cover those with black vinyl. This is done on many of their cars, anyhow.

The gentlemen that work at this dealership are fantastic, though...from the salesmen to the tech. So you can't go wrong there. Lemme know if you have any specific questions about the car, and maybe I could help.

Good luck,
Charles

How is the power and acceleration of the Exige as compared to the Cayman?

charles06 10-16-2009 04:33 PM

That's a good question. Something I went back and forth with for a while. The Exige is a little faster, but it also feels faster because everything is shaking and rattling, and there's not much isolating the driver from the whole "experience". The Cayman is WAY more livable on a daily basis, but from strictly a sports car stand-point, the Exige would be a little more fun.
My girlfriend lives in Savannah, and there was NO way I was driving the Exige 4 hours to visit her. Especially after the tech told me that sometimes the A/C's aren't always the strongest. Plus, I needed to bring more than my thong and a toothbrush.

The Exige S is a bit quicker all the way around, acceleration, handling, etc. that the prior generation Cayman S. I think the new Cayman S with more power and further improvements, really take the car to another level, that I'm not sure even the Exige S260, with 260 hp and lots of track suspension, launch control, brakes and other equipment, can really match.

As far as driving the Exige a long way...it's all a matter of what you like. I currently own a 2007 Exige S with the Stage 3 exhaust. It had the base interior, which means NO sound insulation ( I've since put a lot of leather in there, but still no sound insulation).

I have also owned an 05 Elise.

I've driven both from the Baltimore, MD area to Buffalo, NY and back on overnight trips. About 450 miles each way.

No problems. Not stiff, not bothered by the drone or ride. All in all a nice ride.

But if you need cold a/c, supple ride, high fidelity audio, the ability to hear a cell phone conversation while driving, and minimal road noise, might not be so pleasant for you.

fast-driver 10-28-2009 02:18 PM

It is a nice car, but having such money I would look for another car.

i keep falling more and more for the Exige S. but i'm out of the country most of the year so i'm trying to figure out import laws etc.

stupid question does the roof come off on an Exige S?

CCK 11-16-2009 11:19 PM

Absolutely. It goes on and off with the exact same hardware, tools, and steps used to put on/take off the optional hard top for the Elise. There is the mistaken notion that taking the roof off will cause more flex in the body/chassis. Not so. The body/chassis combo is exactly as on the Elise, which was designed to be a soft top car with the hard top an option. The body is not a stressed unit at all in terms of chassis.

A lot of guys (myself included) also do the soft top conversion on the Exige, so you can take off the hard top, do your open air motoring, then put the soft top on exactly as on the Elise. All it takes is a soft top (about $500 used and fairly easy to find) the fiberglass support rods (usually come with the top), about $15 worth of grommets (into which the ends of the support rods go) to install in the roll hoop (the grommets in the windshield are there from the factory) and faith before you drill into the roll hoop to install the grommets that your measurements are absolutely accurate!

The only thing to remember with the Exige S is that when you take off the roof you are removing the wider portion of the scoop that feeds the intercooler. So with the roof off the lead opening in the roll hoop is smaller, so you'll get significantly less air pressure going through the intercooler. Not a problem just bombing around on public roads, but an issue if you're tracking the car. Should have the roof scoop on and functioning if you're tracking.
