My Lotus Elan project!
Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself. Picked up a '69 Lotus Elan last year and now started what will be a long and expensive restoration.
Here's a link that introduces the project: http://www.myautoproject.com/1969-lotus-elan-2-a-basket-case-project/ The first thing I did was start on the body work. I've read that a body in decent shape without too many spider cracks will take about 200 hours to prepare for paint. I've got about 25 into it so far! But there's a long ways to go. Here's a little how-to I wrote about my paint removal process: http://www.myautoproject.com/removing-paint-from-a-lotus-elan/ Next up is removing the body and sandblasting/powdercoating the chassis! |

The project is coming along pretty well now! I just got the body off the frame!
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ine=1377290901 As you can see, I wanted to be able to store the body on top of the chassis, so that I wasn't using up my entire garage for the project. The next step is to take the engine off the chassis and get it rebuilt and start stripping the chassis down then get it dipped and coated. With my setup, I can roll the chassis in and out easily so that I can work on it. Here's the chassis all tucked away in its new home: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ine=1377290901 You can check out all the pics and a video of the lift on the MyAutoProject post I made.[/QUOTE] |
