Maserati Quattroporte Maintenance Issues

Hi, I'm seriously considering purchasing a used Maserati QP (year 2005/2006) and am wondering if there are any outstanding maintenance and reliability issues that I should be aware of before buying. Appreciate any help!

My dad's boss has one with about 50K miles. As soon as it got over 40K miles he's had some problems with the transmission and other minor things. Apparently these problems add up (~20K) in repairs. This might be an isolated incident. I was told that when you get around the warranty limit it depreciates greatly. Hope this was helpful.

Anything prior to 07's have DuoSelect teansmissions. Those are computer/hydraulic controlled manual transmissions. There is no torque converter!

They have a history of low life and expensive clutch repairs.

You had best fully familiarize yourself with that feature, drive a few, and then make a careful, clear decision.

These cars are very nice but there are many "got ya's"!

Two year old models were selling for 50% of their original pricing.

Be smart and careful.

Transmission/Clutch issues are the biggest problem areas..

Thanks for all of the informative replies. Hmm, looks like I could run into some expensive issues in the future if I go with one. It's gonna be a tough decision....

a friend had transmission issues with his 300 miles out of the box. transmission locked up on him and spun him to a stop. i'd stick to the late 07 and 08 models or be ready for issues

I have had no problems with mine so far. It is an 08 with 7,000 miles on it already. On thing about these cars, as well as most high ends, is that the warranty is a great safety net. If anything is really to go wrong, I am covered. It is great piece of mind, and I would not own one with out it! Good luck and get a warranty!

Wow, these replies have been most helpful. Looks like I should steer towards the 07+ models if I go through with the purchase.

Very good sense. More $ now up front but much less $'s long term.

05-06 had the f1 tranny like the maserati coupe, its a manuel with a clutch paddle but in a sedan people tend to drive it like a auto. so it wears out the clutch fast. it cost around 3k for a clutch. If you do buy a QP leave it in manuel mode and you should do fine also look for one under 30k with service records.

They changed the car for some 07's and all 08's. Older cars are the ones with the problems and no resale.
