PROJECT|900S is officially underway at Fabspeed Motorsport! Our goal is to break the 900 horsepower mark and achieve a low 9-second quarter mile time by collaborating with Evolution Motorsports, ADV.1 Wheels, and more.
Last week, we took delivery of our 2014 Volcano Yellow MP4-12C Spider, and we will be starting work this week!
We will be keeping the community updated as this project progresses. Stage 1 begins this week!
PROJECT|900S - STAGE 1
- Establish baseline power figures
- Install Fabspeed's signature Supersport X-Pipe Exhaust System
- Install Fabspeed's emissions & street-friendly ultra high-flow HJS Sport Cats (for testing/demonstration)
- Install Fabspeed's Catbypass Pipes for maximum power gains
It's begun!
Work has officially started on PROJECT|900S. It may only be paint protection, but with an eventual 900hp behind it, those stones are going to be hitting awfully hard!
Any updates? Would love to know how many miles are on this car and what kind of power it puts down? I am assuming this is all on a stock block?
Unfortunately we have paused the project right now due to having so many new development cars coming it. Right now it has High Flow Sport Cats, our Supersport X-Pipe, and our in-house tune! We are currently making 614hp and 502ft/lbs at the wheels.
Thanks for the update... do you know how many cars EVOLUTION has built with the new turbo kit? Would love to hear how those cars are doing performance and durability wise...

I am not 100% sure but I can look into it! I have one coming in next month that is getting the full kit with no cats. I'll be sure to let you know the outcome!

To date, we've got five cars in the wild and #6 and #7 in progress. So far so good, the only issues we've had to date are related to 12C water pump failures which is a known issue from the factory. We're basically mandating an upgrade to the OEM Track Pack cooling system as part of the kit, which replaces the water pump with a more reliable and higher capacity unit, and the expansion tank with an upgraded piece I believe is off of the 650S.
A typical kit here in AZ at 1500ft elevation is doing between 5.3 and 5.7sec 60-130 depending on tires and fuel (traction is a major problem under 75mph with less-aggressive tires). We have cars that will be hitting the road course and half mile runways this Spring to get more testing and results under their belts in those environements.

Thats great! Have you installed any kits on 650S's? how are the motors holding up? Have you guys determined the weak points yet that need upgrading? Whats the most miles on the kit you have seen so far?

We've done one 650S. It was a beast, it cut the 5.3 60-130 with stock size NT05 tires and spun the tires in almost every gear. It made a significant amount more midrange torque than the 12Cs seem to, but power at high RPM was very similar.
Aside from the water pump, we haven't had any other issues with the stock components. The water pump is a big deal, as its failure can damage the engine. The problem and fix came about from Mclaren well before we started these projects, but the extra power would worsen the severity of any issues should something happen to it, which is why we highly recommend doing it with or before the turbo kit.
Aside from that, no issues with rods, pistons, gearboxes, etc. We limit torque with the kit to what we have deemed a safe point, which we'll stick to until we get further down the line with our engine program.
