I picked up a CL550 about three weeks ago. I still have a few more things I want to do to the car. The wheels are 22" HRE 943's. I also did a Renntech ECU and ELM. The undertray is from a CL63 and the fenders are from Wald.

22" Wheels ?

The car looks great but why go so extreme with those huge wheels ? It's good that they are HRE so the weight is saved and your braking is not hurt too bad. I know it's the looks that drives designers to use over size wheels. Those super hi aspect ratio tires ride like you on the rims with no safety margin for road hazards. I suppose the Benz smooths out the ride better that most cars but there is no question performance, safety, and ride are compromized with those huge wheels. 20's whould have been fine and the dia. would have been the same overall ! You are well past the point of look's hurts performance. Are you going to look at it or drive it like it was meant to be driven ? I for one don't like the BIG wheel trend of today. That's for cars on display at SEMA stuff not driving. Car look's great, good job. Best regards, Steve PS you picked the right brand of wheels !

This is my daily driver. I also have a CLK BS for the weekends. The car rides great on the 22's. It's a CL550, it's not a high performance sports car, it's a luxury car. About the overall tire diameter, it's actually the same as stock 27.8". This is my third Mercedes that I have in the past year with 22's, it's not as bad as you think. You are correct in the fact that HRE's are light. If I had gone with almost any other 22" wheel, I would have felt the difference forsure.

I like what you have done to the car but I would have 22's on a CL, however everyone is entitled to their likes and if you like them its fine by me.

Enjoy the car and post pictures of your CLK63.
