My C63's Front Bumper Is Getting Scraped! Need Some Help! Please!
 

Hi guys,

I am having some issues going in an out of some driveways where I have to be extremely careful due to the fact that my C63 is low to the ground. Small scarpings are starting to appear under the front bumper. Is ther anything I can put there to prevent this? Any type of protection gaurd out there that would work? Something that wouldn't ruin the image yet keep it safe would be ideal.....:)

Don't go into driveways straight, go at an angle, one front tire at a time, a must on low cars.

My car is probably lower than yours and my driveway is probably steeper. Going at an angle is a must. As for protection goes, i don't think you can do much besides avoid/repaint that part of the bumper.

Both my cars scrape if you don't know how to drive them properly. Raise the suspension.

When i would pull my 360 in, i would always go in from an angle, very very slowly, no scrapping, when i would pull out, i used to go straight out and would hear the horrible horrible sound, that was when i learned, near the end of pulling out turn the wheel all the way, and pull out on an angle, no scrapping at all going in or out now... lesson learned

Thanks for the info guys but I have been going in and out in an angle but still sometimes it does hit in/out public driveways which i go through almost every week. I am in the process of changing my own driveway to make some minor adjustments so that I don't have to angle it in but I wanted to know if there was any protection or plastic casing that I could put there??? Plastic casing...I KNOW ITS NOT A CELL PHONE.....hahah

Are you talking about scraping the bottom or the front? My Black Series is lowered by over 1.5" plus I have a custom carbon fiber front diffuser/splitter, I have less than 3 inches of ground clearence. I was scraping everywhere and did not want to damage the carbon fiber because once it starts to split or come apart it's done. I researched several materials that I could build a skid plate out of. Since this is a very high end car that I track regularly I needed something that is strong, light weight and attractive, or even better yet, nearly invisible. I came across a material called Tegris, it is a woven material that looks similar to carbon fiber, it is a dense polypropolene based material. You can purchase it in either flexible fabric sheets, (imagine hevay screening material) or ridgid sheets. I opted for the ridgid sheet and had a couple pieces cut to perfectly mirror image the footprint of the downward facing part of my splitter and then used a high strength automotive apoxy to secure it, rather than putting screws or bolts through my carbon fiber splitter. The part is not visible and even if I tell you it's there you will have a hard time seeing it.

As it turns out this is the same material that NASCAR now mandates be used on the front splitters of the cup cars today. I believe it is used on Indy cars as well. This stuff can literaly be rubbed against the pavement at 200mph and not break down at a rapid rate, so any street application is going to be a cake walk.

Merc-Skycap; one more material to look into is Delrin, which is made by Dupont. It is a dense, low friction nylon based material available in sheets starting at thickness' of .125". It is easier to find and less expensive than the Tegris material, but would work fine for this type of application. I use it for skid plate material on my Jeep Rubicon for off-roading.

JRCART--I will check into that and see what I can find on google. I am not sure how much Tegris is to begin with but I did send them an e-mail to see what they say. I heard from someone that 3M makes a clear yet thick protection shield that can easily be fitted there aswell. If you can let me know how much they charged for Tegris and where and hot you got it then that would be most appreciated. Thanks Again!

I got two sheets big enough to cover the entire bottom of my diffuser for about $125.00, that was purchased through the custom shop, I'm not sure if they markied it up, but I'm sure they did. In my opinion $125.00 plus the labor to install it was money well spent considering I paid nearly $3000.00 for the carbon fiber splitter/diffusuer.

Is the 3M stuff you are talking about the clear protective film? If so that is not durable enough to protect from curb and road abasions, it is designed to proect against chips and nicks from small stones and insects, it is for lack of a better term just a thick clear tape. It is the stuff they make those clear bra's out of.

Yes the clear tape is the one I'm talking about. A friend of mine told me that you can get a thick layer and put it under the bumper which should do the trick but to be honest I like what you have done.

If you can kindly point me in the right direction to order these plastic composites so that I can find a good price and get this matter resolved then that would be greatly appreciated. :)

if u're scraping the C63 & know how to drive lower cars then that must be some nasty driveways. u can put double layers of clearbra to protect it but scraping will make it ugly as well. the only way to avoid it is not hitting LOL!
