FS : Porsche Valentine V1 Mirror

Haven't yaken pictures yet but wanted to give folks here a shot before listing on ebay. This is a standard Porsche mirror (non-dimming) to fit a Boxster, Cayman, 911 etc which has a V1 remote display mounted inside. If you can grab the Porsche mounting piece and glue it in then this would also work in pretty much any car.

The glass has been etched to allow the display lights to show through, the jack to connect it to the V1 is mounted in the back of the mirror as is the control button for mute/mode selection. All ligths and displays are fully operable, the display looks like this:

http://www.radarrack.com/resources/v1new1.jpg

The text and symbols are painted from the rear in red, this will slot straight on to most standard Porsche mounts. Stash the V1 in a stealthy location such as the rear parcel shelf, run the cable around the headliner and you have one of the slickest V1 installs going.

$400 plus shipping.

Chris.

Thanks, I'm working on one now for my G35x where the remote display will be completely invisible when it is off but shine through the mirror when it is on, R&D in progress, I'll post some details if it works out.

This is promised to someone already but seeing as you asked here is an M3 mirror with two-way glass I've almost finished.

Wow - Great work!

porshaah 11-11-2009 03:22 PM

doesnt specify the version / updates for this radar??

LTCJMRamos 11-11-2009 04:11 PM

No radar, just a display as far as I can tell.

ukchris 11-11-2009 04:30 PM

It is the remote display and mute/mode controls, not the entire V1.

I can make them for most cars, shoot me a PM if you'd like to discuss specifics.

Wow, I would love one of these! Is it still available? Does it bolt right in? (I haven't taken the mirror off and have no idea how it works)

What car? PM me details and I'll see if I can help.

drkside 12-12-2009 11:53 AM

anyone selling a Valentine One? I need the radar before I can get this cool mirror!

ukchris 12-17-2009 07:29 PM

Yes Stan, the original glass had leaked so I replaced it with two-way glass.

Sezme 12-23-2009 09:47 PM

Can this be done to a 997.2 auto dimming mirror?

Yes, although I'd have to get a look inside the mirror to be certain. I'll PM you.

bad107 12-24-2009 09:31 AM

Any more for sale?

XLR82XS 12-24-2009 09:37 AM

When I get a V1 this will be on my list. Nice work!

Short answer... not really, I have one for a Crossfire/Audi TT with full color display behind two-way glass but it is probably spoken for. Having said that shoot me a PM with what you're looking for and I may be able to help.

rotaz 12-24-2009 06:43 PM

Hi I'm looking to upgrade to an aftermarket auto dim mirror for my 06 cayman s (has the regular mirror currently). Would you be able to wire an aftermarket one w/ a two way mirror V1 (stealth look)?

Please let me know, or PM me.

Thanks!

Combining two-way glass and auto-dimming is very difficult, I've experimented a lot but have trashed a lot of glass so far, have another test I'm doing soon. So... can I etch an auto-dimming mirror - yes, can I make a two-way mirror - yes, both together? Not just yet.

If you are going auto-dim you'll probably end up buying the expensive Porsche mirror, the issue is the mount, the piece on your windshield is proprietary and I have not found any adaptors. You can have it removed and a different mount glued in but there is some risk of the windshield getting cracked. The most common after market mirrors are the Gentex ones, you can have auto-dimming, a compass, home link, all the bells and whistles... but you need something to attach it to which is always the catch.

So your recommendation would be to get the Gentex installed w/ the V1 etched into the glass?

Can you PM your cost to do this?

The GenTex is cheaper and they are nice mirrors, the risk is in having the "button" removed from your windshield in order to save around $200 (which you may end up paying someone to remove the button).

A Porsche auto-dim mirror will run around $350 for the mirror alone, by comparison a non-autodimming one is around $75. An auto-dimming Gentex is around $150 depending on the model and features.

I find most Porsche drivers like to stick with OEM but it's all personal choice, I'll PM you some thoughts.

ukchris 12-24-2009 07:28 PM

Personally I think auto-dimming is overrated but that's just my opinion :)

ukchris 12-24-2009 09:12 PM

Call this one a Christmas special! :)

For a manual dimming mirror (the trapezoid shape) $495 shipped. Cheaper if you already have a concealed display.

lakhoon 12-27-2009 09:35 AM

Definitely need one here in VA considering that it is illegal. Cops knows this so they prey on everyone for speeding, even 5+mph over the limit.

RDKJ 12-30-2009 12:35 PM

Where do you place the actual V1 radar detector when using the remote display?

JmanE55 12-30-2009 04:05 PM

Please PM a price for 997.2 please. TIA.

slawek 12-30-2009 05:46 PM

I would love one of these! Is it still available? My it's 07 997.

ukchris 01-06-2010 12:04 PM

I can get you a 997 non-auto dimming mirror easily, the auto-dimming ones get very expensive due to what Porsche charge for the actual mirror. For anyone with a traditional wedge mount mirror where there's a wedge on the windshield that the mirror mounts on there is one on ebay at the moment, just search on V1 concealed display mirror.

Porsche05 01-06-2010 02:26 PM

How much would it cost with the auto-dimming mirror? I have the auto-dimming mirror. Can I give you my mirror from my car, if so how much would that cost? This is for a 997S.

I'll PM you, buying a second mirror to mod is probably cost prohibitive as they are around $400, what may work is to loan you a non-dimming mirror to use while yours is modified.

Lennon31987 01-20-2010 10:09 AM

pm me, i need one for 996tt i have a nice concealed settup on my e46 and want something for the turbo
