Summer Cleaning: I'm Looking to Donate Books, Clothes, etc....

Hey MD/DC/VA 6speeders,

I'm beginning the summer cleaning of the garage and the house. I'm going to do a decent overhaul of the garage (Paint, Shelving, Storage, etc) to the garage so a lot of stuff has got to go. I'm not interested in spending time selling knick knacks and stuff so I am looking to donate some things. I've done the whole give to goodwill thing already over the past several years, but what I really want to do right now is to donate to people who REALLY NEED things......for FREE......I want children to have books to read, I want people who need clothes to get them, etc etc etc......

Anyone know of any charities or organizations that I can bring these things to give away to people who really need them???? I'd like to do a simpler version of like an Extreme Makeover Home Edition to help some family/people who could use a 2nd chance. A unique set of circumstances and someone who really deserves it would be BEST!!!

If anyone else is feeling philanthropic as well, maybe we can pool a lot to give away?

Thanks guys.
Berk

Miriam's Kitchen in DC by GWU is a direct contact place for clothing, blankets, etc. for homeless people. We give to Purple Heart on a quarterly basis. Between our daughter growing out of clothes real fast and us at the age of less means more, for us makes it win win for all. Purple Heart will pick up pretty much anything you have and is useable. If you think it's trash, it most likely is. Just dump it before passing it on for someone else to throw away.
