National Capital Chapter presents Street Survival
Limited spots still available for next week's April 16th Street Survival !!!
Spring time once again kicks off the 2011 National Capital Chapter's Street Survival program in Dulles, Virginia.
The Chapter is very proud to present this program as it benefits the general public as well the students who participate. Some students that attend for the first time are somewhat reluctant to warm up to the class initially as they may not have come willingly. However, in the end most would like to return!
Our day starts out with the student's vehicle being safety-checked by the instructors, followed by registration and light refreshments. Students are split into two groups; the 1st group begins the in-car session and the 2nd group begins the classroom session. The two groups switch places once in the morning, and again after lunch. The classroom sessions focus on and identify the distractions and bad habits that young (and seasoned) drivers need to avoid to be safe behind the wheel. Car control is discussed and formatted for young drivers which break down braking, looking ahead, understeer and oversteer as well as emergency situation awareness.
Once behind the wheel our highly trained instructor corps puts the lessons learned from the classroom into practice. The students will go through a variety of exercises that include slalom, braking, wet skidpad, emergency lane changes and other in-car techniques that are given slowly and gradually until the students grasp the concepts.
Street Survival is designed for the 16 - 21 year old age group and is sponsored by the Tire Rack and the BMWCCA Foundation. These companies, in addition to National Capital Chapter volunteers, believe this is a worthwhile program for parents and students.
Please pass this along and look forward to seeing you there too!
