Fair Lakes, 03/29/15

Jaguar XK Coupe.

The earliest Camaro today.

Mopar group.

Lotus Exige S260.

Mitsu CF hood.

A very large Camaro contingent today.

Ferrari F550.

Ford GT.

GT3 RS.

Challenger Hellcat.

Lots of Jeep today, too.

3 Chevies.

As usual, lots of Corvettes.

Viper.

'32 Ford Roadster.

Ferrari 360.

The last Sunday in March, and it was COLD - in the twenties when I arrived at 7:30AM. The good news was, heavy rains on Friday had completely cleared out the salt that has been on the streets for so long. Whatever the reason, lots of people came out today.

Fair Lakes C & C Announcement

Today's Fair Lakes cars & coffee brought big crowds, and interesting cars, but it brought something unwelcome, too: It has to be said that the vast majority of those in attendance at these events behave perfectly. The problem is, we have some individuals that think noisy engine revving, burnouts, and high speed runs are part of the event - they are not. Even a few bad apples jeopardize our ability to continue to use this lot to congregate and enjoy this event, and we had quite a lot of bad actors today. It's certainly not limited to any one group.

I have been coming to this venue regularly since 2010, as have many people I count as friends. We enjoy this event, and want to continue to enjoy it here. Here's a message that event founder Bob Williams published before; I can't say it any better -

Remember that we are guests of Starbucks, Kohls, Dicks, AND the people who live in the condo building at the other end of the lot. If they want us gone, we will be gone. Our event has grown and we have so many great people and cars, it would be tragic if we had to cancel this venue.

If you come to the event, please abide by these very few and very simple rules:

1. Demonstrate respect for the people who live there and for the event. No silly and/or stupid driving antics entering or leaving the event. Please save the burnouts and 0 - 100 mph runs for somewhere else.
2. Drive SLOWLY in the parking lot - there are kids, LOTS of people wandering about, pets, and people going to shop.
3. Don't start your car and repeatedly rev the engine demonstrating how loud it is. We love that stuff but the rest of the people going to shop or living in the condo probably don't.
4. EVERY car there is special and exceptional. That is why we all take our ONE parking space. If you feel the need to take more than one space, please feel free to do so at a different event.

Ok, that's it - pretty simple basic stuff.

Please copy this and post it in other forums to get the word out.

Thank you and lets try and keep this venue safe, fun, and growing for a long time to come!

I got there around 8:45. It looked like someone ran over the curb at the entrance/exit and left pieces of their car scattered all over the road. I imagine it went some like this:

It started out cold - it was 38F when I arrived, just after 7AM. It got warmer pretty fast, though - it was in the 60's by the time I left around 10:00AM. Quite a crowd today...

There was a 'large' (and welcomed) police presence this morning. At one time I counted 5 officers walking around, talking to car owners and enjoying the turnout. The ones I spoke to were really impressed with the turnout (although small compared to previous weeks) and diversity of cars. Some even chatted about their own cars and mods.

Last Sunday was a beautiful day, lots of great cars, and the most ***-hattery I have seen at Fair Lakes in a long time.

OMG people, cut the crap or we will loose this venue. If you cannot seem to leave the lot like a mature individual, please go to other events. Maybe we should be posting "***-hat-of-the-week" pics on this thread....just a thought....

I think it's a great idea!

Maybe it's time for a flyer handout?

Today's attendance was a trade-off - warm weather, but overcast. No rain, but Mother's Day. A pretty good crowd, nonetheless.

Bill Lauer, RIP

That's Bill, to the left of his Jaguar.

Bob Williams let me know about this a couple of days ago. Bill Lauer, a fairly regular Fair Lakes Cars & Coffee attendee, has passed. Below are pictures of cars he brought to Kohl's lot.

Obituary: Tetra Founder, President Bill Lauer | Reston Now

Our thoughts are with his family.

This Sunday, my attention was focused on the Lotus get-together (Get Your Lotus Out, or GYLO) we held at Fair Lakes. Several friends came over and said hi...

That model has the 3-liter Ford V6. I liked it, but I didn't notice the sound. I have heard a TVR Griffith (V8) on the track, and it was AMAZING!
