2017 Katie's Cars & Coffee Thread - Great Falls, VA

Great shots! I've never seen so many cars there before.
I have a question about parking protocol. I was backing into a spot this morning but there some guys standing in the space who said they were saving it for their friend. I said you can't save spots but they wouldn't relent so I had no choice but to park elsewhere.
In all the years I've been going, I haven't ever seen a space being saved before. Is saving spots normal and OK? If so my friends and I could take turns sleeping in a bit later

Saving a space for someone is generally not acceptable. Mike, the owner of Katie's, will occasionally mark some spaces off for vehicles he knows are coming, and have made arrangements with him. Beyond that, holding a space for the one guy in your group that couldn't get up early enough - not cool. I've been around this event, and others, long enough that I take some things for granted, and not everybody understands how things are done. I'm reminded of that every time I see someone sitting in a lawn chair, behind their car.
As for me, I'm very happy I have been allowed to participate - even welcomed into this event. When I first arrived, I saw old, classic cars and supercars. My Elise was neither, but people recognized my enthusiasm. I try to do the same when people with completely different vehicles show up. I learn something, every week.
Note:
That's me, below, leaving the lot, in front of a group of people paying attention to traffic.

I was away at the beach the last two weeks, so it was good to get back. Today was an excellent example of what is so interesting about Katie's Cars & Coffee - terrific cars & people!

Torrential rain pretty much all day Friday meant there were flooded-out roads around the area Saturday morning. We had some people show up at Katie's, anyway. We were fortunate that it didn't rain at all from 5:30AM to about 7:30AM. Attendance was light, but we still saw some interesting vehicles, including a '56 Chevy wagon we'd never seen before!

A very interesting day at Katie's. Very early this morning, a young man showed up with his parents. It turns out they were in from out of town, visiting Katie's for his birthday. He had a great day to be there.
That's a fiberglass replica of a VW bus, driving on its side. Made by the same guy (SpeedyCop) that brought you the Toyota van with the Cessna airplane body. Both are 24 Hours of Lemons racers.

What a difference a week - and weather - makes! While we had a fabulous turnout last week, along with excellent weather, it rained last night, and it was overcast this morning. That meant fewer people at Katie's - but it was still good.

As I keep saying, you can hardly go a week at Katie's without seeing cars you haven't seen before. One was the Triumph Spitfire that drove thru, with a dog co-piloting. Another was the loud Cobra copy. I've seen the bumper-less E-Type Coupe before, but I still love it!
On the way home, I found myself following Dino in his Diablo. A nice, relaxing drive home - I chose not to pass him!

It was 59 degrees when I left the house, going to Katie's. The sky was clear. Less than a mile from my house, I was enjoying the open sky, and when I arrived at a stoplight, I looked up and saw a meteor streak by overhead. That's the kind of day it was! Several cars I had not seen before, as usual.

Attendance at Katie's is never zero. I've been there, and met friends there, even when it's snowing. No snow today, but it did rain all morning.
The rain kept away the majority of the exotic cars, but Katie's remains a big social gathering, even without as many interesting vehicles.

It was a particularly good showing, and the crowd started extra-early this cool September morning. Take a look at some of the amazing vehicles there today! (Most people won't know what several of these cars are...)
