What confuses me is the big price difference that I see on similar cars with similar mileage...

If you contact a dealer, what's the name of the computer readout from the car to see history, launches, max temps, etc?

Flicker data?

Black Box data?

Some of the service reps may not even know what you're talking about, because it is not something they look at normally. In fact, when I had a problem with my car - it took them two days to install the proper software and make exceptions in their security policy to download my data. When they got it, they just forwarded it to the regional tech for translation.

I'm not a GTR buyer nor will I ever be but I do know a few things about used cars so you have to keep in mind demographics based on where you live has a lot to do with pricing.

For example the Portland metro area has only ONE BMW and ONE LEXUS dealer so they tend to be snobby on pricing. My friend bought her Lexus IS for $3000 less in norcal and got free shipping to her city!

If you live in competitive markets like LA, NY, Miami, then prices will be lower in general due to more people with $$$ to spend and more dealerships competing.

Or the other end of the spectrum is isolated cities such as Des Moines, St. Paul where cold winters and other factors limit the appeal of a $80+ car. Those dealers are more willing to deal to get rid of expensive "show-room" furniture in this case GTR's sitting around doing nothing.

hope this helps

I am thinking of picking up a used 2009 or 2010 GTR within the next six months. I hear all sorts of stories about launch control hurting these cars. So I was hopeful that before I buy a used GTR that I could bring in the car to a Nissan dealer to see if they can run a data check on rev limiter, launch control, etc. According to what I read above, looks like this is not possible?

I didn't read everything above, but VDC-off launches are recorded. Because LC2/3, and now LC4, don't require VDC-off, this is not a big deal, as launches are still covered under warranty.

So the launch count was really only counted on LC1 (VDC-off), on the '09s, and almost all of them were modified to LC2 anyway (and even if there was damage from the LC1 launches - it was given amnesty, as long as the upgrade to LC2 was completed).

But you are correct in that VDC-R launches are not recorded (no need to, because it is not significant for maintenance reasons).

What I find interesting is that there are 177 (or so) on Auto Trader.com for sale and many 2010 and 2011 that are still new and at the dealerships.

Here is the break down I noticed for sale by year
  • 2009- 56
  • 2010 – 102
  • 2011 – 19
You can pick up a 2011 for close to Invoice and I think when the 2012’s start to hit the market there prices may not hold for very long.

The 2011 Spec V (or what every you call it) is going to have carbon ceramic brakes, and a manual boost controller. Too bad none of these bad boys are slated for USA import.
