Asking was a little over $55k with the warranty described in the link above. I offered $48k pending I liked the test drive and porsche independant inspection went well. Car is on consignment, and dealer said the owner accepted $48k if I pay dealers $1500 commission for $49500 WITHOUT warranty, or $52,500 with warranty. I think I can get the final price to at least $49000 without warranty, or $51,500 with warranty, perhaps maybe even a little more off than that. I'm not in a hurry, and can't pick it up (its 500 miles away) for 3-4 weeks anyway.
If I didn't need triptronic, then I think I could get closer to mid 40's for a 996tt, but I do, and they are more rare, and more expensive it seems. Still $49k or $51.5k warrantied for 2.25 years is not bad at all for a 996tt with only 28,800 miles.
Turns out, despite 28.8k miles, there are NO service records for this 996tt at all. 1/2 gone breaks and tires and a soon 30k service required are going to drop my bid a lot, and I"m not sure they will be intersted anymore, but so be it if they arn't. Tenatively thinking of offering $48k with the included 2.2 year warranty, but maybe even lower, which will be a firm offer for them.

The tires, brakes and service are easy negotiables. Subtract half the cost of the tires, brakes and the full service from his asking price and start there.
My concern would be with the service records, I am a big believer in only buying high performance cars that have all detailed service records (preferrably from factory dealer). Another negotiable...
Congratulations on making your decision Mike. I recently saw a at 997 Turbo Gen2 at the dealer and I asked what he specs where for that car, from what the sales guy said the numbers where staggering. However I see way too many 996,997 driving around every day. You cant really tell if its a GT3, Carrera, or Turbo most of the time so I still favor the Aston as the prime choice. Also the Porsche interior is getting borring, I wish they would spice it up a little. Hardly a difference between a Boxster interior and a Turbo interior. Recently though I have seen 6 Vantage's in this month alone...I do hope their not getting more and more common because of how hard they depreciated...

Are you suggesting that since they depreciated so much, they are being driven more? There are still 09's in the dealerships new and they produced less 2010s due to the inventory.
lol! No problem. Congrats on the (new) car. Please report with your impressions after a while. As you've pointed out - purchasing is but one aspect, owning is a completely other factor.
You seem like an objective person, and I'm also considering another car (911 Turbo w/PDK) in the future.
crazy how back in 2010 people thought the gtr will depreciate down to the 50s in 14 months from then time , fast forward 4 years later and a 2009 still cant be had for less than 60 , they have kept value so well!

Yes, a lot has changed and you are right about housing prices. My wife and I found a stunning home in Michigan on a lake in late 2013. We have two kids now to go with the house, plus a boat and couple jetskis. My true passion for the past four years has been taking my snowmobiles to the UP. It's hard to beat no speed limits and thousands of miles of beautiful trails!
I finally got that Aston last year as well, it was a long time coming! Ended up with a manual 2014 v8 in lightning silver, and added a velocity ap tune and supersport exhaust and cat deletes. Its a very pretty car and was worth the wait!
I ended up selling the 996tt tog a good friend (who is now adding the new tail lights and media system) when I got the Aston. This was the first time I've ever sold a car; bittersweet but my house has space for 4 garaged cars with the other toys and I'm at 6 as is (still obviously have the addiction). The other toys include my old g35 coupe still, Ferrari 360 I got shortly after the 996tt in 2011, the Aston, a Jag XFR, a 17 Ford Raptor for children and snowmobile hauling and Michigan winter driving, and the most recent addition was a 17 GT350R last November for track days (nice 8 year warranty compared to hammering a 17 year old Ferrari is a better way to go!) I added rear seats to the R and it makes a great daycare run car as well!
First track day at M1 concourse coming up soon in late April. Let me know if any local readers will be there and we can meet up!
Love the collection. I don't have that much space anymore (moved into a smaller home now that children are moving out). Our biggest challenge is finding time to visit grandchildren in other states. Great cars make the trip more enjoyable.
