History of the GTR & it's Porsche rivalry.

Bascially here is the history of the GTR going way back into the mid 60's sorry its all in Japanese but you will get the idea, the guy with the glasses is basically the Carrol Shelby of the GTR also known as " Mr. Shinichiro Sakurai" AKA the father of the Skyline.

it all started here in 1966 with the PMC "Prince" later being called the Nissan R380 this was Nissan beginning quest to match the Porsche 904 in Japan race series. in this video is the intro of the video part 1 of 4 showing the R380 and a KGC110 Skyline base gt.

Person who is speaking in Japanese in the video is " Mr. Shinichiro Sakurai" bascially the "Carrol Shelby" of the Skyline growth to its current status as a pedigree sports car from japan and setting the bench mark Kizen improvement.

Back to the drawing board , Nissan's goes from 2 to 4 valve starts the S20 DOHC development. Nissan discovers the advantages of aluminum body & components spawning the R380 race car. R380 race cars 1st race day vs. Toyota 2000gt and 906 and 3,2,1 go.

Lots of history there in those video's. I do feel that Sakura Chan does need the recognition for his work :). Sure Shiro Nakamura is just one player of the GTR for 2009 but the video show who needs to be appreciated :). :D

Ultimate GTR/Skyline race car driver's :

Hoshino Impul & Gan San Kurosawa

Still looking for Hoshino Impul R33 lap of the Nur Ring - there is video of him going full flat out on the ring similar to the Ruf Yellow Bird. Gan San Kurosawa is bascially the Walter Rohrl of Japan.

I do remember that the RX-2s and other earlier mazda rotaries had some great battles with the skyline.

True, but Nissan & Porsche is one that has been consistent and of course the battle between the domestics in japan has always been there but nothing like the battle between Porsche & Nissan. :)
