I would like to share with you a recent project I took on. I uninstalled the front fascia and had it repainted. After the uninstall it was really nice to have so much exposed to clean and detail. A shop in Olympia called Perfect Reflections took really good care and used a thorough process of sanding, filling, and finish work to create a flawless result. More importantly though is that I am really happy with the result and the project made a huge difference in the show quality of the car.

I went to Accutint Bellevue to install clear vinyl to protect the new paint. They did a number of things, but realized that the fresh paint is vulnerable to lift. I will be going back in a week or so.

Felt great to work on the car. My next project is custom injector and spark plug covers.

Final install and all that is left are the numbers. Repainting the bumper has made a huge difference. Clear bra is planned to be applied after the paint has had 2 weeks to cure.

 

Nice work, the new finish looks great. Just an FYI, if you have Venture Shield installed instead of 3M you can apply the next day after paint. Venture Shield is also a better choice in my opinion over the 3M due to the better clarity, less orange peel, and will also stretch better on that complex bumper for better coverage without seams. Just my .02¢

It's ok. Accutint should also be able to install Venture Shield for you.

Any sort of paint protection is not advisable for at least a month if not more. That goes for wax or clearbra. Yes venture shield is awesome and will allow some sort of vapor/solvent migration through the film, but it is not advisable. Even the most modern single stage or B/C systems will cloud and stay soft if you do not allow the fresh job to off gas. That is not some BS info a painter is telling me, that is directly from the likes of Dupont, BASF and Sikkens. What you can get away with is a different story. You won’t notice discoloration on certain colors as much. Leave the Chemistry to the chemists and you wont have any issues. Bill and Bob only shoot the paint, not engineer it.

It has been easy to avoid driving. It has not stopped raining since Thursday it seems. The painter also mentioned that letting the surfaces sit in the UV rays would help as well. He meant the sun, ya that thing that sits above the clouds all day while we sit under the pacific ocean.

 

I dont think we will be seeing any of those UV rays any time soon.
