2017 Jaguar F-Type Build Thread
Hey guys, I picked up the F-Type 3 months ago and the mods are now slowly starting. The car is a bare-bones base model which is the lightest option from the factory that also gives me the freedom to mod the car to how I want it. It's a DD but will see the track occasionally too so I want a well balanced car. The plan is to do the works plus a few custom pieces; wheels/tires, springs, exhaust, tune, front splitter, rear diffuser, high fixed wing, etc...

H&R springs installed
H&R 28822-1 springs installed and now sitting 1.2" lower. As far as the ride goes, it's slightly more firm than stock but has a lot less body roll and the car feels more planted. The car will go in for a good alignment in the next month or so once I get around to installing my new wheels and tires. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5274.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5258.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5259.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5260.jpg |
Wheels/Adapters delivered
As some of you Jaguar owners already know, we don't have many options on lightweight aftermarket wheels for our 5x108 bolt pattern, so I decided to go ahead and have some custom 17mm 5x120 wheel adapters made from MotorSport-Tech. I decided to stick with the 18's and found a perfect fit to run on the F-Type. I just received my new APEX EC7's in Satin Black in 18x9.5 +58 (20lbs) and 18x11 +44 (23lbs). The 17mm adapters make it a +41 front and +26 rear which should fit nicely with a set of 265/40R18 and 295/35R18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Still need to order some tires. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5345.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5469.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5480.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5478.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5476.jpg |

When you mentioned custom pieces I was imaging custom forged wheels built to your specs like HRE's :D |

Car was in the shop today for rear valance and diffuser mock up along with Solidworks designing the rear section exhaust.

Testing out the OEM R exhaust
The custom exhaust was just too loud for daily driving so I am testing out another setup. Overall it is just a little bit louder than stock. I was thinking about adding the OEM R midpipe to go along with it but after running this exhaust for a couple of weeks now and hearing it from the outside, it is definitely louder than when it was first installed and sounds great. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...l-img_5771.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...l-img_5402.jpg |
New wheels and tires installed
We ran into an issue with the other wheels due to stud clearance so I went a different direction. I've seen this Aston at a local car meet a few times now running this setup and it really sold me for a temporary solution: https://www.vcollection.com/assets/i...disp_thumb.jpg https://www.vcollection.com/assets/i...disp_thumb.jpg Matte Black Niche Essen M147's 20x9 +38 front and 20x10.5 +35 (with a 17mm adapter in the rear making it +18) with Michelin Pilot Super Sports in 255/35R20 front and 295/30R20 rear. After seeing the Project 8 at Cars and Coffee Saturday, they seem to run a similar style wheel and tire combo. Wish I could be running 19's but it will work for now: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5966.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5945.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5947.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5948.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_5950.jpg |

No changes to the car this month but next up will be installing the carbon wing and diffuser and then a track day out at Chuckwalla. |

Did you consider adding any channels to the rear diffuser or continuing the under panels all the way?

Messed around with the Go Pro on Sunday. We were having some issues with the on-car microphone quality but the outside filmed turn really gives a good idea of what it sounds like. |
First Open Track Day in the F-Type
The Hornberg dealerships hosted a Jaguar/Aston Martin track day at Chuckwalla Raceway for their clients last Friday and it was a great turnout! There were roughly 30+ F Types varying from stock base models to modded SVR's. Though I have tracked my previous cars before, this was my first time at Chuck and first time tracking the F-Type. Overall the car did very well and I was quite impressed with how solid everything felt throughout the day. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_6399.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_6418.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_6422.jpg https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...d-img_6416.jpg |

The car is getting ready for the next round of mods over the next few weeks. |
A lot has happened over the past 2 months but since there is not much activity over here, I'll just post it all at once:
Everything is starting to come in for the new changes last month: OEM Project 7 Grill Delete GT Carbon Rear Diffuser GT Carbon Wing OEM Side Sills All parts will be wrapped black to keep the car to the OEM+ "GT3" design. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...4969176098.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...6d0eccc887.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...dde6684bbb.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...c04e040706.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...79140e4a45.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...b18dcb15e8.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...4566bbe0f2.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...d8ec24bd90.jpg |
OEM Side Sills Installed
We spent a good 5 hours installing them the correct way with all of the OE Jaguar hardware. Very time consuming job. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...f704501bdf.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...34210e3671.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...8a9d931b64.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...e012d3e96c.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...77967f5b8a.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...6ec85ee35e.jpg |
New Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires Installed
I decided to keep these wheels for a bit longer and I was in need for a new set of tires so I decided to upgrade from the Super Sports. I’ve been running MPSS’s on all of my cars for over 5 years now and love them but from the reviews everyone says the 4S’s are even better. I went with the same 255/35 and 295/30 sizes since they fit the car well. I look forward to testing them out on the track soon! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...d7b366a066.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...5b1df79eeb.jpg |
Project 7 Grill Installed
Quite possibly the best mod for the F-Type is the Project 7 Grill Delete. Sourcing one is 90% of the battle and I am not going to go into too much detail other than saying that an original P7 VIN is required and A LOT of patience with finding a dealership or online Jag dealer to accept it. The grill surround came in white from Jaguar so I had it wrapped in gloss black to match the rest of the car. At this time I also swapped in the black Jag emblem and wrapped the front lip while everything was apart. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...da44cc993e.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...59eea81bdb.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...ce2646d9de.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...1a2803606a.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...c9e7bb51dc.jpg |
ClearPlex Installed on the Windshield
As the track season approaches, it was time to ClearPlex my windshield. I was out at Chuckwalla this weekend with my brother for Bimmer Challenge and the amount of rocks and rubber that got kicked up at his M3 made me install the Clearplex first thing at work this morning. If you don't already know what it does, it's essentialy a clear bra for the windshield. We used the ClearPlex IR which has 70% tint (barely noticeable) and also helps cut down on heat. A good installer will get this installed on the car so that it looks like nothing is even there... as you can see in the last two pictures. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...f4831bdccc.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...58235987b3.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...59b78e0858.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...4de2c8a824.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...ec51c3d745.jpg |
And a little teaser of the CF GT3 wing and rear diffuser...

Looks really nice. I think making a car “your own” is sometimes the best part. X... |
Fantastic looking F Type. Seriously considering one of these for my next car. Love the wing. How difficult was that to install? Nervous at all about drilling?
